What I don't get is the philosophy behind the CPU's trade block. I have a Cavs dynasty, and the Kings put up Mobley on the block, so I got him for Eric Snow, and just now I saw GS had J-Rich on the block, and I could have got him for Mobley and Pavlovic, but I didn't. If another team offers, I'll go for him. And stupid practice injuries get on my nerves.

I bough espn 2k5 last week and I've played about 10 games so far. Here are my thoughts:

1. first of all, player models look better than in LIVE. This is a fact IMO. And courts look better too, especially the wood.

2. The overall presentation of the game is better too. The highlights at half-time and after the game are a very nice touch. Play by Play broadcast is good but probably not as goos as in LIVE. Arena's sounds however are great and much better than in LIVE. The crowd is really involved and really gets you into it.

3. The animation on the contrary is not as fluid as in LIVE. This is true for both players and the ball. It just seems to me that EA did a better job with motion-catpture this year. Everything just seems to flow smoother in LIVE than IN 2k5.

4. Few courts in 2k5 aren't like their real counterparts. Warriors and Wizards for example do not have their update courts' colors. This is a major flow for me.

5. LIVE has a much deeper selection of alternate and retro Jerseys than 2K5. Also, I don't like the fact that in 2k5 you cannot select your opponents' jersey in association mode. This means you cannot have real retro nights.

6. IN summary, graphically speaking 2k5 may gain a thin edge over LIVE due to better player models, but it eventually loses it because of poorer players' animation.
So, anyone saying that 2k5's graphic is a way better than LIVE's graphic needs a pair of thick eye glasses.

7. When it come to Association/Franchise. They are different but both good. Without going into details, both games have ther PROs and CONs., and there is no winner. I like a lot LIVE's Gm's evaluations since it gives me the chance to change team in franchise mode without having to start a new franchise..I haven't seen such a thing in 2k5.

8. Gameplay is better in LIVE for me. Not because I'm more used to it, but because player controls are much better than in 2k5. Iso-motion sucks compared to LIVE's freestyle. Post-moves are not that good in 2k5 as I was especting. In 2k5 it's harder to drive to the basket (probably because isomotion sucks) and you usually end up scoring with forced shots from 3, mid-range or the post. LIVE offers more variety in terms of ways you can score, but it has that blocks issue that really makes it unrealistic most of the times. In general though, LIVE's gameplay is better.

IN general, the two games are close in my opinion. Both are very good game, but far from being perfect. Since I am the type of person who puts gameplay before graphic and presentation, I slightly prefer LIVE. Still, both games are enjoyable and worth the money you pay.

I just found something else that was pretty cool.. I was scouting rookies for the upcoming draft, and in the Mock Draft I saw a 6'11 Romanian SF who was predicted to be a late first rounder. I thought 6'11 was a good height for an SF, so I scouted him (when you scout you get strengths/weaknesses/NBA comparison) and when I had a look at the scouting report, I noticed his height was down to 6'8... which is pretty awesome considering this kind of thing does happen in the NBA aswell, players are often listed at heights that are bigger than they actually are... what made it even better, is that after I scouted him I looked at the Mock Draft and saw that he'd actually dropped to the 2nd round.

Same kind of thing happened where I saw a 6'9 SG predicted to go #2, I scouted him because I had the #1 pick and 6'9's an awesome height for a SG. Looked at the scouting report and he was actually 6'7, plus he'd dropped from #2 to #5 on the mock draft. It's a small touch but it's pretty cool (Y)

yeah, that is pretty sweet....I must admit I have been really slack with playing the game....barely pulled it out of the packet since I played it....been meaning to but I've just been a slackarse I guess....

I've been tweaking my sliders nearly every day for the last month or so, and today I managed to delete them all accidentely and potentially murder someone because of it. When the sliders are shit, the game is shit but good sliders makes the game fantastic. Guess it's another bunch of practice games and experimenting.

On the plus side, I unlocked the All-Time 6ers Team :D Iverson, Erving, Moses Malone, Wilt etc... and Clarence Weatherspoon, when he was good.

Wed May 11, 2005 4:36 am

How do you unlock teams??

Wed May 11, 2005 4:53 am

You've gotta do certain things... I think I scored over 120 points in a game and it unlocked the All Time 6ers (Y) In the Extra's section, there's one called Unlockables and it has the descriptions in there.

Wed May 11, 2005 11:49 am

can you post your slider settings?!?

Wed May 11, 2005 1:39 pm

When I re-do them I will lol, I lost them all and I haven't played the game since.

gutted, thought you might be able to remember....

I'm just trying to be a little lazy and save a bit of time....ahh well....

I've just found out about this:

http://www.2ksports.com/community/forum ... hp?t=73565

Isn't this the biggest bug in the history of Basketball games?

Fortunately there's a a way around it: you have to sim the last game before going into the nba finals.

So, I post it, because if you are not aware of it, you might waste you entire season and weeks of hard-playing.

what a shame

Fri May 13, 2005 1:13 am

Whoa  I never knew that existed, I haven't got that far in the game yet to play a full season manually.

Wow, that would suck! When I rented this game all I played was the street mode and I had a lot of fun playing that (Y)

I might just go out and buy this game.

Fri May 13, 2005 11:05 am

^lol. I read about that when I checked out that forum months ago...don't know why though. I don't even own a single ESPN/2K game nor do I have a console

Fri May 13, 2005 11:56 am

I hate the street mode, it's kinda boring to me although I'm thinking about getting Madden or something because I'm now also bored with ESPN 2K5.

Fri May 13, 2005 12:04 pm

hahaha i dissed 2k5 in a week....with that kind of gameplay, i could have just watch a movie and grab something at mcdonalds with the money.......hey it still coud be a great gift to a friend when his birthday comes.

Fri May 13, 2005 12:08 pm

Do you mean the gameplay is like watching a movie? Or eating McDonalds is like playing 2K5 or your friends birthday is at McDonalds? I didn't really understand much of that.

Fri May 13, 2005 12:47 pm

let's just say that the money spent on that game was equally as entertaining if i did those activities i mentioned.....i hope you get it now :?

Fri May 13, 2005 1:26 pm

That's a rather critical bug to leave in the game. But I suppose as long as the faces look good, it doesn't matter. :P
