Ex-Korn Guitarist Baptized in Jordan River

Sun Mar 6, 8:50 AM ET Top Stories - AP

KIBBUTZ KINNERET, Israel - Former Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch was baptized Saturday in the Jordan River, just weeks after quitting his band, drug habits and rock-and-roll lifestyle for religion.

Welch, a founding member of the multi-platinum band, and about 20 other white-robed Christian pilgrims from a Bakersfield, Calif., church were immersed by their pastor, Ron Vietti.

Welch said the ritual baptism had washed away his anger. "You know when you get angry and it builds up? I felt like hurting someone before, now I feel like hugging people," he said.

Vietti said Welch — who has "Jesus" tattooed across his knuckles and "Matthew 11:28," tattooed prominently across his neck — is already attracting a new group of young people to the message of Christianity.

"In recent weeks people have committed their lives to God because they're so inspired by his story," Vietti said.

Korn announced Welch's resignation last month after 13 years with the band. Welch said he had become increasingly depressed and drug-addicted in recent years, but that religion helped him quit.

He said he plans to release more music without the band.

"My songs are God saying things to me, him talking to people. He's going to use me to heal people and people are going to be drawn to it, just watch, they will be," he said.

Thousands of pilgrims are baptized annually in the Jordan River where, according to Biblical tradition, John the Baptist baptized Jesus.

Just when you thought you knew everything about your favorite band...

If Korn can be called "music"...

yeah i read a little bit about that. couldnt care less.

I found it funny, cause you're suppossed to be this hardcore, drug-addicted, head-banging "rocker", and all of a sudden, in a matter of days, you discover "real joy" comes from christianity. And you go to Israel to get baptized.

It's just crazy. :?

Drug withdrawn. *shakes head* (N)

Mon Mar 07, 2005 9:21 am

I think it's a nice story. I mean, if even though I oppose the concept of religion, I think it's good for him to avoid drugs, depression and anger by turning to alternative methods. Even if that alternative is religion.

Heh, you think that's weird... what about how that artist Houston (known for his song with Nate Dogg "I Like That", featured in a McDonald's commercial) gouged his own eye after a suicde attempt.

Mon Mar 07, 2005 10:44 am

Yeah, there was a thread on that and you can see the picture where he got all this jelly in his eye after gouging.

Mon Mar 07, 2005 11:40 am

Mon Mar 07, 2005 3:29 pm

i posted this in the rock thread bout 2 weeks ago and as a huge korn fan im really dissapointed and it took like a week for this to sink in i just hope it doesnt affect their upcoming album which they are currently recording and i hope they can find a new guitarist that is half as good as head

Mon Mar 07, 2005 3:32 pm

good news for Scott Stepp looks like hes found himself a guitarist......now he just needs a bass player and a drummer and he can go back to being Jesus Christ on stage

I know that dude.....most rock bands these days r infact outta the drug regime....but course the history and label of metal music is everyone involved in the industry r "satannic druggies"

Mon Mar 07, 2005 6:01 pm

Slash died on two seperate occasions from drug overdoses :o .

But like Najira said earlier, most of those rockers are sober now and off the drugs...
The new breed of 'rockers' are just posers who don't have the guts to dip into drugs and weed. Well not make it public, afraid they'll lose their endoresments. :?

not all poeple who believes in Jesus are that religious.
:| What the heck. Well unless they believe in Jesus the soccer player then no they ain't religious. But if they believe in the Lord Jesus Christ then they are.
'Head' left a succesful rock band, millions of dollars, ladies and that lifestyle. Went and got baptised in the same river that Jesus did.

If thats not religious then you are the most coherant poster on this forum.

Mon Mar 07, 2005 7:13 pm

read this before. couldn't he stay in the band while being religious? might be better though since he might try to censor some stuff and all

Mon Mar 07, 2005 7:24 pm

i dont think he would try censor stuff but he said he wants to commit to it 100% and he may think by staying in korn there are too many temptations

publicity stunt comes to mind....converting and getting baptised doesnt make him more religious than the next man

all this reminds me of that dude form 3 6 Mafia that converted to Gospel
