Political Science: Jury System...

Postby Null17 on Mon Jan 31, 2005 9:45 pm

well, a friend and i need to do a paper for my pol sci class and the topic we chose was the feasibility of a jury system in our country. the thing is we need to compare some of the judicial systems of other countries that use the jury system but the only one we know that uses that is the US. can anyone help? like what other countries use the jury system and any other useful information that can help us like cases that the jury system was useful and otherwise.

yeah yeah, i know. use google, i should make my own homework etc. i plan to but i thought this would make it easier to research since i know where to begin and all that. thanks

In Australia, our trials last for five days where there's 10 jurors and 1 judge. There are 4 lawyers on each team, all 4 are only allowed 10 arguments before they can't do any more. The defending team sends in a witness, he faces various lawyers until one of them out-argues him in which case he goes back and sits in the pavilion. After 5 days if there is no clear winner, it is declared a draw and everyone goes home happy.

We do have others judicial forms, including the one dayer's where both teams have limited time to argue their case and it's so rushed that by the end of it everyone just yells random accusations in the hope of catching someone, or "getting them out". If at the end, once again, there is no clear winner then it is also declared a draw and another criminal walks free.

For all of the idiots who may happen to read this: Basically that's what cricket is, that is not how our judicial system is and it is not a reflection on Australian society. Now go get my raquet.

Jury System in Survivor

There are 2 tribes. They vote 1 member off after 3 days depending on who won the Immunity Challenge. By the time there are only 10 contestans left, the 2 tribes merge. When the 7 of the last 9 contestants are booted, they become the jury. They then vote for the winner of Survivor.
