Metal Gear Solid 3 : Snake Eater

Wed Dec 08, 2004 4:25 am

I've discovered this site a while ago thanks to a class-mate. And i've been checking here for some weeks.i decided to register and hopefully contribute to community someway. :)

Well i checked other games section and could not find a topic about Metal Gear Solid series. i am a hardcore MGS fan. And i want to write my own review about it. So i hope you guys don't be mad at me for creating a thread on my first day :).

MGS relives yesterday to survive tomorrow...

After landing we find ourselves on a wild jungle. As the game takes part on a jungle it naturally effects the gameplay.First of all Snake not only to takes care of enemies but also trying to survive.

Jungle in Snake Eater is not like narrow corridors from old MGS series, as the jungle is big you have more ways to go but also more risk to be caught by the enemy. Also as radar is not in available in 60s you don’t have it normally, which forces you to adjust to be much more carefully. And as the game takes part in a jungle it is harder to locate enemy and see around. You should be careful with your movements in Snake Eater.

First of all it doesnt matter if you are covering behind a tree or bush there is always a chance to get caught. Also you have to pay attention to sounds.

It is much harder to walk silently in the new game so you cant just grab your enemy and break his neck. You have to get real good at this. When you approach your enemy from behind they always understand what is going.
Also there are much less place to hide on alarm situations .And Evasion/Caution takes much more time. All those makes Snake Eater not a killing game, makes it a surviving game. This is where camouflage comes in handy.

You have to use camouflage according to the place you are at. it all depends on where you are at. Dont worry just look at the up-right of the screen and you will see %XX.More "XX" is more you are in stealth.camouflage determines it.

One more thing, in old MGS series you can skip alarm by simply changing areas. But it doesnt work now.The alarm stayes even if you go to different area.

The only bad thing about the game is camera angles are really bad. :( You need to get into FPS mode to see your around on many areas.

Snake needs to survive in this game. in order to this he needs to eat. From snakes, frogs, rats to fruits, mushrooms, bee nests.Quite disgusting. But you cant find a McDonalds in a jungle in 60s can you? :D (There are lots of things to eat for food guide; http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file ... 3_food.txt
You can find other guides and FAQs http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/game/36777.html

Anyway there is also "cure" system .You get gunshot wounds ,cuts and get your bones broken. Also you can get paralyzed ,poisoned or sick .You need to cure yourself or your stamina goes down.

in the new game you cant heal yourself directly. You can refresh your stamina which helps your health getting better. in order to keep your stamina in a good condition, eat and cure.

That is all for me. i wont explain other stuff to you.Because it is really fun to do it yourself. Best thing about MGS series was definitely story of them. The story is better than ever in this MGS game.

Do yourself a favor and buy this game. it deserves every penny you give. it is the best game ever.(at least for me :) )

i left the bad news at the end, the producer and the scenario writer(in short ,the god of MGS series) Hideo Kojima has retired from MGS series. He said he will leave others to make MGS series from now on and he wants to make other games. i don’t know if it will be any good without Kojima.

Please share your thoughts and feel free ask for help if you are stuck in anywhere.

it's like the other MGS games. it's in third person perspective but intead of running around shooting people you try to use stealth to survive. plus the story is usually great

i'm surprised no one else has talked about this game, the whole series is deffinatly my favorite out there, i dont think any gaming series even comes close to the level of MGS, even stuff like GTA which would probably be my 2nd favorite...

I've had the third game (snake eater) for a week or two now, just beat it yesterday, and must say it is by far the best game i have ever played. MGS 2 had a few flaws, in that the storyline and ending were alright, but still not up to the level of the first games storyline. And though the gameplay was excellent, they decided to try and work in a new main character (Raiden) who was a total turd face that no one liked. The 3rd game takes a high quality storyline, and adds the awesome gameplay from the 2nd game (plus Closed Quarters Combat, Food, Cures, Camo) and molds it into 1.

I'd suggest playing this 3rd game first, then going back and playing the original NES/Gameboy versions, and then going back to the first MGS on playstation, and MGS 2 on PS2, so that you've gone chronologicly through all the games. It makes everything so much clearer, and makes for quite a gaming experiance.

Wow... i cant believe how much i just sounded like a nerd :x

MGS3 is too complicated for me... had a hard time with the controls and the number of things i have to remember...

i played MGS1 on the playstation and it was much simpler back then...

the glory of the old days...
