So, What's the Deal Andrew?

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

So, What's the Deal Andrew?

Then they aren't treated equally.

Who's doing that? I've never done that, yet I'm being punished along with everyone else.
Andrew wrote:conspire to bring down the NLSC

The only people that appear to be "conspir[ing] to bring down the NLSC" would be GameSpy and you.
Andrew wrote:or continually attack me

It's in response for the things you do, Andrew. You refuse to give any answers and when you get even the slightest bit of criticism you delete and lock.

You're right, I'm a terrible, evil, insane person who does things for no reason because I get some kind of bizarre kick out of it. That might make a compelling story, but that's not the way it is. If people refuse to see my point of view and dismiss me as some power-hungry over-sensitive maniac, then I'm not going to bother explaining my position on things.

I was not aware you were. But, alas, that's against the point.

But...you said...

But, yet, I don't, and people wouldn't, if you explained it. Because I can see your point of view, and quite frankly it's wrong Andrew. You're deleting people who criticize you or the NLSC, you're not enforcing the rules equally and you're turning people away from the NLSC. For reasons that are unbeknownst to me and many others. I'm not aware of any sorts of threats, any conspiracy or any attacks until after you did something to someone else. That's why I'm questioning, because it confuses me.

I'm referring to the person that informed me that most or all of the people involved with nbalive.org dislike the NLSC and would like to see the fall of it, with nbalive.org replacing it. I mean come on, these are unofficial fan sites dedicated to a video game that we enjoy. There's no profits to be won or lost. I don't see the need for any competition, because there's no point. Like I said, these are two sites that are run by NBA Live enthusiasts, each providing their own resources and coverage of the series.

Which is why when Tony said to me on MSN "You've started a war", I raised an eyebrow. War? I'm not interested in any "war". Come on, we're above that, there's no need to for any war.

I can understand why it appears as though I cannot accept criticism. But in all honesty, I don't feel that all the criticism is particularly constructive. I feel, and there are those who agree with me, that certain statements could have been put forward in a different way. The new design could have been criticised with belittling my efforts and attacking me personally. Therefore, I took offense.

I also question, if the NLSC is in ruin, sucks so much, is so terrible, is such an eyesore and no one visits it, then why bother to announce patches in the forum, send me file submissions and whatnot? It can't be all that bad if there is still visitor involvement. Are there elements I'd like to improve? Of course. But they can't change overnight, and the NLSC is a hobby for me, the same as it was for Tim, Lutz and Brien.

I guess some of my actions paint me as Andrew Begley the evil NLSC webmaster. And if people hate me for what I do, then I feel sorry for them. I mean, I run a website about a video game, I'm one person out of, what is it, 4 billion people in the world? If anyone holds any hatred or bitterness towards me, then I'm afraid it's in vain, because let's face it, in the grand scheme of things I'm just one insignificant person, and harbouring dislike towards me isn't going to accomplish much.

Profits? Well, revenue.
Andrew wrote:I don't see the need for any competition, because there's no point.

Self-improvement.
Andrew wrote:Like I said, these are two sites that are run by NBA Live enthusiasts, each providing their own resources and coverage of the series.

Which damages the end user.
Andrew wrote:Which is why when Tony said to me on MSN "You've started a war", I raised an eyebrow. War? I'm not interested in any "war". Come on, we're above that, there's no need to for any war.

Then why are giving us the impression that you do? You haven't been adverse to just Tony, you've been adverse to everyone who works for or favors nbalive.org. Me and Seth-o both believe you've blocked us on MSN because you're never on even when others say you are. You haven't answered any of my e-mails or added my 2000 roster which I've submitted three times. Is it a war? I don't know, I haven't been fighting in it if there is one.

All criticism is constructive. That's the mindset you need to have when producing something that the public views and can openly criticize. Otherwise you will always be offended. Tony criticizes nbalive.org constantly, Alex does, David does, Seth-o, Rens, Dmit, even innocent Liam. Even the people I don't know, that just e-mail me or contact me. I take every criticism to see, how can I make nbalive.org better with that criticism? I mean, I have many criticisms of NLSC, but after people were deleted, I'm not one to want to share them. Do I think the design is bad, yes, but I find that irrelevant, nbalive.org has a horrid design to the eye (ask Tony) but it's quick and you can get all sorts of info. Yet, I belive that if I address the speed and poor coding issues, issues that could help everyone, I will suffer a similar fate. But lets be frank here Andrew, had you not reacted by deleting Tony, and then when he came calling for removal, you had two opportunities to diffuse the situation, you've had countless opportunitites, you can place blame on Tony like he or as it appears I am placing blame on you. But to assume the other person will do it, has been a constant laspe of judgement on your part. This, combined with the wide-spread unequality of your administration of the forum as caused more animosity than fighting with Tony did or could. When Tony calls the design crap it seems, insignificant compared to when vinsanity03 calls someone a "stupid fuck" because they said "Earl Boykins can't dunk", and if it's the mods fault and not yours, perhaps you need new mods?
Andrew wrote:I also question, if the NLSC is in ruin, sucks so much, is so terrible, is such an eyesore and no one visits it, then why bother to announce patches in the forum, send me file submissions and whatnot?

Depends, do you want the sarcastic reply? I don't think the NLSC is in ruin, I do believe it does suck, but I don't think that it sucks because of the NLSC, but because of the mass of people that occupy it's space are killing my brain cells more so than illicit drugs and wasting my time more than Seth-o.
Andrew wrote:It can't be all that bad if there is still visitor involvement.

I could debate that point for ages.
Andrew wrote:Are there elements I'd like to improve? Of course. But they can't change overnight, and the NLSC is a hobby for me, the same as it was for Tim, Lutz and Brien.

See, your demotivating yourself and opening yourself to taking all negative comments as attacks. If you don't believe it can change overnight, why should we have hope that you can (to steal your metaphor) right the ship?
Andrew wrote:And if people hate me for what I do, then I feel sorry for them.

Would you rather people hated you for what you looked like or what your name is?
Andrew wrote:I'm one person out of, what is it, 4 billion people in the world?

Over six billion.
Andrew wrote:If anyone holds any hatred or bitterness towards me, then I'm afraid it's in vain, because let's face it, in the grand scheme of things I'm just one insignificant person, and harbouring dislike towards me isn't going to accomplish much.

Then you will need to learn how dislike can motivate towards production. And again, your saying your insignificant is implying that the NLSC is as well. Perhaps that's where your biggest mistake lies?

So, go unlock the NLSC Issues, unlock my thread, unblock me on MSN (or sign on) and answer my question. Please.

Yes, revenue might have been the better word. I guess pride and satisfaction in one's efforts can be considered some sort of profit.

Self-improvement.

Yeah, but I meant competition with the intent to destroy the opponent, when there's no need for it. I should have clarified that.

Then why are giving us the impression that you do? You haven't been adverse to just Tony, you've been adverse to everyone who works for or favors nbalive.org. I've got your Live 2000 roster submission, but I only received it once, and that was...yesterday? The day before? At any rate, I'm behind on all the File Additions, so it's going to be added, as long as you still wanted it to be added. I haven't received any of your emails either.

See, your demotivating yourself and opening yourself to taking all negative comments as attacks. If you don't believe it can change overnight, why should we have hope that you can (to steal your metaphor) right the ship?

I wasn't aware that anyone expected all the problems to be fixed in 24 hours. I'd rather spend more time on a project if it means better results and something I am happy with. As for the belief in me...well, I ask people to bear with me. Whether they do is their own choice.

Over six billion.

OK, over six billion. I'm sure you get the idea though.

Then you will need to learn how dislike can motivate towards production. And again, your saying your insignificant is implying that the NLSC is as well. Perhaps that's where your biggest mistake lies?

That wasn't a statement made in self pity. I know that I am significant to my friends, significant to my family, and I guess since I handle the day to day affairs of the NLSC, I'm significant to the NLSC as well. My point was that I'm not a significant enough figure to harbour hatred for.

So, go unlock the NLSC Issues, unlock my thread, unblock me on MSN (or sign on) and answer my question. Please.

OK, I'll unlock it. But if it degenerates into an argument or a whole lot of people just ripping into me, then I'll have nothing further to discuss.

Actually, in nbalive.org's case it's actual $$$. You have a big conglomerate behind you so visitors means little, but I'm on a network that was losing $200 a month. (what's that? breaking even now? hell yeah!)
Andrew wrote:Yeah, but I meant competition with the intent to destroy the opponent, when there's no need for it. I should have clarified that.

That's really the focus of any competition, but alas, the common term is "friendly competition" where you actually don't do it.

Well, I'll be darned, hmmm, oh well.

Well perhaps don't expect that of you, but some people *cough* expect immediate results from others.

In your mind, it all depends on how important the NBA Live community is to you.

Well, the entire section is designed for your criticism since you are the NLSC. But, remember some people were posting in direct anger, I was not, I was trying to provide a more "civilized" side to their arguement and trying to get more explanation from you. You knew they were going to do it anyway, so punishment of others was relatively uneeded (esp. considering some of the other threads on this forum), I'll re-ask my question in the other thread. BTW, I think this thread should be moved into NLSC Issues since that's what it is. ;)

Hi Andrew,
I'm not picking sides or anything so don't get the wrong idea. i'm going to quote something from the main page of NLSC that i noticed.

I admit that I am guilty of the same flaws as all humans - sometimes I am not as fair as I should be in my administration of the forum, sometimes I let things get personal or allow my emotions to affect my actions. I try to be professional and keep my cool as often as possible, but like anyone else, I am prone to momentary lapses.

Surely flaws that you're looking to fix, yeah? Then why do you keep deleting Tony? (three times now i believe) it does hurt the community.
Really, He didn't do anything that wrong. it is debatable. but after he re-registered the second time...why was he deleted then? and the third time?

absolutely. we have the nlsc and then nbalive.org but everywhere i go i see things like "nbalive.org - the definitive nba live resource" now thats a bunch of bull..everyone knws that nlsc is the #1 place and not nbalive.org and ben already claiming they are the best out there..just because nbalive.org is somewhat "similar" to nlsc just the fact that nbalive.org has these "elite" patchers dont mean u guys should be tops on the net. i see the competitive environment going on here but let ur patches do the talking and not start a "war" from what i heard..

Andrew wrote:Which is why when Tony said to me on MSN "You've started a war", I raised an eyebrow. War? I'm not interested in any "war". Come on, we're above that, there's no need to for any war.

whats the point of "starting a war?" what war? war about what? war for the site with the "best nba live resources?" no point, no point at at..

andrew, ur not the only one. there are many out there that cannot and will not accept criticism because i dont see a need unless they ask to be criticize but at least make it good and not start out by saying "it sucks", or "i dont like the design". if u want to criticize at least do it in a good manner. at least give some ideas to make it better instead of straight-forward put it down..

exactly andrew. if the nlsc is so bad, why be a part of it? why announce ur patches here? i mean dont nbalive.org have their own forum??

they all want the nlsc to go down but dont worry andrew, u're doing a great job and nbalive.org will NEVER take over because they are nothing more than a bunch of losers that have nothing else to do than to criticize people for anything and everything. they dislike the site design yes, i support free speech and what not but like u said u took offense and i agree that u as being the webmaster of this site that u had to do what u had to defend urself from all their critism..

is it wrong to block people or ignore replying to an email? there is no law or wrong doing to people blocking people or not replying to the emails if they dont want to or dont feel like replying to it..people block people all the time. people delete emails and never reply to some all the time. stop crying about it and trying to start a war..

bout this..i think we need new mods andrew. yohance isnt the best choice for this and ill tell u why. he has this thing where he will put a "sticky" on his new patches when he announces them..so does that mean he's taking advantage of being a mod? i dont see that in any way fair to others. why make them "sticky"? i mean when people login to view the forum and check the announcements they will see ur patch and will or will not comment but why make it "sticky" for weeks on all ur patches? he has also done this before..when tony and alex were still here with their accounts. when they announce new patches it is always "sticky" why is that?

Although sticky posts are reserved for moderators and intended for admin/"official" business, if a post requires easy access and/or deserves constant attention, all a poster needs to do is get in touch with Yohance or myself and we can make it a sticky.

Yohance made Tony's and Alex's posts stickies at their request. Similarly, before I created the Live 2003 NLSC Roster Patch Issues forum, I created a thread dedicated to the current roster patch and made it a sticky so it was always at the top of the first page of topics.

That's true. I've talked to Yohance about this, and we basically agreed it would be alright, as long as it wasn't done in excess and the post was only temporarily a sticky. Most patchmakers don't see it as being necessary to have sticky posts, and in other areas of the forum, stickies are only used when necessary or useful.
