I think I am going to get a new video card soon. I have about $300 to spend so I was wondering if I could get any advice as to the best possible video card I could get.

What about an NVIDIA? There are a lot of GT's, Ultras, OC's, and 128/256 MB's.

I think you're good for that card. I personally own an ATI 9800Pro, and it's great!

Spend 300 on some comp stuff... OMG! BUt that card is good. Many cards are good.

FX5500 is a bag of shit,
no offense. Go for a 9800pro, thats your best bet. Anything beyond that would create a bottle neck because of your cpu speed.
Also have you got onboard sound? If you have, buy yourself a soundcard, Soundblaster Live series have some cheap & cheerful shit to suit any budget. After you have installed it, switch off the onboard sound in the bios, this will give you a good performance increase.
250 Power Supply
That could be a problem, and 1 you could do with out. Theres a website that measures how much power your system needs, I'll have alook for it and post the link.

Thx guys for the input. I actually spent over $300. I bought an NVIDIA Geforce 6800 OC 128MB, a 92mm fan, and a 400W power supply.
Only thing is-the power supply has a 13 pin thingy. My motherboard has a 10 I think. I have to return it and get a different brand probably.

Guess what??? I found out what the problem was to my video card as i needed help in:
http://www.nbaliveforums.com/ftopic20120.php
when i uninstalled my Geforce 5500 with the drivers, i was talking to a friend.... i decided to try and reinstall the whole card. I did and played nba live 05, and it worked! When i went back to the desktop, i looked at the card information and the refresh rate was at 60. So i guess it was the refresh rate... i can play nba live at max settings and resolutions and it runs smoothly on my 5500! i guess i can return the $350 graphics card.
