World Cup Of Hockey 2004

Postby Tuomas on Sat Sep 11, 2004 5:45 pm

Finland's last game was very exciting... we beat USA 2-1. This is probably the greatest achievement in finnish team sports history.

Nobody thought we could win usa but... hah! Even the ref's last penalty for Finland (what was a wrong decision by the way that undoubtely favoured usa) didn't turn it around  And Finland now is the only team in the tournament that has come back from a losing position to win the game.
Now Finland is going to the final facing either Canada or Czech.

Anyone else watch the games and any opinions?

Yeah I'm watching it a bit. I was actually thinking that Finland was going to win before the game started....the commentators were saying it was a big upset but in my mind I was thinking Finland was the favourite.

Oh yeah ...go Canada (might have to play semi without Brodeur ) :(

It's possible. There's some hockey league in Canada thats kinda been revamped so NHL players can go there like instead of Europe. Apparentely one team has a front line of Kovulchuck - Crosby - Thornton

Yeah, the NHL team owners say they lose too much money every year so they want the players to accept a salary cap....but the players union says they will NEVER accept a salary cap. So if the disagreement is not resolved, there will be no NHL hockey this year.

hmmm....I'm not sure what you're talking about...Thornton has signed a deal with a Swiss league team if there is no NHL. Lots of players are signing deals with European teams for this season so they can play some hockey.

But I think you're talking the WHA, a new league that drafted Crosby 1st overall. But I think Crosby hasn't decided what he's doing next year.

I read on some message board they had Thornton, Crosby and Kovulchuk, everyone was bitching about it.

Yeah Finland put up a good fight and the game was closer than I expected.

Now it looks like no NHL for a while, but I don't care because that means no overload of hockey on the sports channels.

Well, it would be hard to follow when there are no games on TV...I couldn't really get into it...
