MLB Questions

1. Why do they have separate leagues like AL and NL?
2. How come teams can only play teams in their own league?
3. Why do they play teams twice or three times in a row?
4. How comes they don't have the same players playing every game? Like some teams have different pitches each game.
5. Why is the draft in the middle of the season?
6. How many teams from each league go the playoffs?

#1. The two leagues are just like the west and eastern conferences in the NBA.

#2. Teams play most of their games against teams in their own league but there are a few games that AL teams play NL teams which is called "interleague play". A few years ago there was no interleague play because teams in the same division played the same teams the same amount. Some teams don't like interleague because it messes up the schedule because the teams in the same division play different interleague opponents.

#3. There are so many games in a season, (around 160 or something), that teams play a mini series against an opponent which is usually 3 or 4 games at one stadium.

#4. Teams have 5 starting pitchers that alternate every game. They need time to rest their arms because they throw so hard.

#5. Don't know the answer.

#6. Four from each league go to the playoffs. (3 division winners and the wildcard winner)

Hope this helped and my answers aren't too confusing

It's 162 games in a season, and I think that it's pretty wack that one team plays against another team from their divison like 20 times in one season?

Example: AL West... Mariners & Angels.

The NBA has 82 games, and a team gets to play all the teams in their conference 4 times, and from the other conference 2 times; and you get to play every team in the league. Unlike the mlb, they got 162 games!

But it makes sense to of playing a team in their stadium in a series of 3 or 4 games, because of travelling, plus way more games (162)!

Unless you're in the East and play 1 or 2 teams only 3 times. Plus that will all change for 2004-05 with the introduction of the Bobcats.

To answer his question about the draft, it's in the middle of the season because the college world series ends in june, and the baseball season starts in april and ends in october.

Some stadiums don't have roofs so when it rains they have to stop the game until it stops raining.

Y do each team have no coach only manger or sumthing..

I think the manager is basically the same as a head coach. Baseball teams also have hitting coaches and batting coaches but the manager does basically the same stuff as head coaches in other sports.

To answer your question about the fielders choice thing.....a fielders choice would be something like this......there is a runner on 1st and second and the ball is hit to the shortstop...he may be able to make the play at 3rd or 2nd since there are runners advancing there...but maybe he thinks it would be easier to get the runner at 1st so he gos to first...thats a fielders choice.
