Convince me Reddit is good.

Sat Oct 08, 2011 12:08 am

Ok so I've spent a bit of time browsing the PG-rated 4chan clusterfuck that appears to be reddit and I have no idea what is going on. I'm usually pretty good at this sort of thing but I'm at an absolute loss with Reddit.

Basically this is how I see that website through my eyes. I type "reddit.com" into my browser, hit enter and am confronted with this ungodly mess:

How on earth do you make sense of this? There's a thread called "When I die" right above one entitled "Should Politicians wear uniforms like NASCAR racers" (wtf by the way) and then something about the Nobel Peace Prize and a blind person playing baseball. Oh and another one about being molested in the boy scouts.

Like I said, it is an absolute clusterfuck yet people seem to continually find interesting/cool things on this site. How!? Is this really just a less organized version of Something Awful?

I understand the upvoting system (about the only thing I do understand about this) but how do you guys browse it and find cool things? Or do you just go through all of the mess page by page until you find something.

there should be a title bar at the top with this crap

ALL-RANDOM | PICS-REDDIT.COM-FUNNY-POLITICS-GAMING.... MORE

I guess you can hit more and pick out what you want to see, there's a search thing too. I dunno, this place is random enough for me.

How you all described it is basically it. Clicking on title will take you to the source (pic, link, op, etc.) while clicking on the "comments" will take you to the 'thread'. Inside the threads can be other links, which some cool links can be present.

That sounds like a lot of work. Is there a website that will do said work for me

You can always contact a chinese prison and make arrangements to have your own detainees that will do it for you. That is if you're fine and ok with outsourcing.

Just give up.

Cryanide spends all day on it, do you really want to be like him?

I'm not a fan of consistently having to load more comments on the more popular threads, especially for the AMA sections.

Some clicking and you will find some gems on there. Whether it's pics, stories, videos, and in most cases the comments.

The photoshopped images had me rolling.

I'm little late here... But i'm not gonna lie, i love reddit. I started using it about 6 months ago despite everyone saying it was shit and haven't looked back. As long as you subscribe to the right places you find the coolest shit. It's my #1 boredom/procrastination source now. I don't get anything constructive done, thanks to reddit. (Y)

Exactly the reasons why I have been avoiding it like the plague. Still value my free time too much to spend it all there.
