Shootout at the Empire State Building Yesterday

Postby Jeffx on Sat Aug 25, 2012 9:01 pm

By now, you all heard about the shootout that took place outside the Empire State Building. I don't work in the ESB anymore, but I still freelance in the area. I was buying breakfast on 33rd street on my way to a gig on 35th. I missed the carnage by 10 minutes. The shooter was a disgruntled out of work designer who killed an ex co-worker he blamed for his job loss. Then two cops took him out in a wild gunfight. Nine civilians were hit, but no one killed. Some of my friends said they ran for their lives.

Turns out the dude had a similar story to mine. He was a 50-plus year old graphic designer for an apparel company who was laid off last year. Even has the same first name as me - yikes.

Nice alibi Jeffx. Now don't go anywhere and just wait for the cops to arrive.

This happens all the time, cops see an object or a dog, fire off a shit load of rounds carelessly.*

NYPD doesn't even know if the guy got off any shots at the cops.

*See, for example, Jose Guerena's murder:

They shot him 71 times, he never even took the safety off. I love the dope who runs up to make sure he can blindly fire a few into the house after everyone else.

They're now saying this guy never even fired a single shot at cops. Meaning there was a good chance he would have just surrendered (especially considering the contained way he killed his former boss) and cops wouldn't have to injure innocent bystanders in their glee to unload their weapons to live out their moronic fantasies.

Terrible. Glad to hear you're OK though, Jeffx. I imagine that's a bit too close for comfort.

That's sad and the video is upsetting as well. But yeah how the hell do cops get off so many shots in 1-2 secs? The guy is 10 feet away from the cop

Bullets are fast. Some can even travel faster than sound.
The average time a QB holds the ball is 3 seconds and a lot is happening on the field with the defense trying to sack the QB.
Just ask any girl benji has dated and they will tell you that benji did it in just 2-3 seconds.
A lot can happen in that time span.
The more you know.

But 9/11 was only a decade ago, you can't blame the cops for being a little off the edge and gun happy for your nation's security.
Never forget.

I can. I'm increasingly believing they shouldn't even carry guns or tasers.

It's that or their union plunder and faux-sovereign-immunity protections.

I'd rather they have guns if needed, but if I get to offer the choice.

Also. Everyone praises speed in everything else, 40 yard dash, 400 meters, QB GETS RID OF THE BALL BEFORE SOMEONE FLIPS OVER HIM, oh he got a new record time, we need to lavish him with praise. But in one thing you're efficient and take care of business as fast as possible and suddenly in another it's a character flaw.

did you just compare a sport to cops shooting someone? COUNTERED

we've had a few people near my area killed by cops' tasers in the past year, but I'd rather them be tasing people than drawing their guns and shooting them.

That's nothing. Kelly Thomas, John T. Williams, Patricia Cook, Andrew Scott, Nick Christie, Seth Adams, Wendell Allen, Ramarley Graham, Kenneth Chamberlain, etc.

Shit happens all the time. Nobody cares. Cops get rewarded for murdering citizens, stealing their property and throwing them in cages for harming no one.

Sandra Fluke. Chick-fil-A. Romney's tax returns. Todd Akin. ENDLESS COVERAGE.

But the unaccountable terror state brought on by the War on Drugs in which tens of thousands die and even more are imprisoned. That's something for the President to laugh about, the Congress and media to...

nope, not gonna keep going, too angry enough.
