Really close to buying a PS3. Recommendations?

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Playing LA Noire. At first, I was turned off by the clunky feeling controls and the misleading first mission (it didn't specify which kind of drainage pipe to climb...) but I'm starting to get into it. When I realized that Phelps was Cosgrove from Mad Men, I was like omg and stuff.

Cool game. Like it a lot better than RDR

Well, I'm on a terrible moment right now when it comes to money...

- Finished Ratchet & Clank;
- Will pop on MSG4 soon;
- My brother is playing Portal 2;
- And also playing Infamous, which I got for free...

If LA Noire has 'murderable' horses, will you consider it as GoTY material? :P

It's coming to PC, so a "murderable" horses mod is possible. :mrgreen:

Wow, I started this almost a year ago!

Bump worthy. This is how my collection looks right now. Keep in mind, I had those two games only (MGS4, Ratchet & Clank) for almost six months.
:lol:

- With some of my family members giving me money for my b-day, I bought Final Fantasy XIII. Beautiful, finished the main story and still playing it.
- My brother bought Portal 2 by himself.
- Saved penny by penny and got Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
- My father bought GT5 as a Christmas' gift for us.
- Found a one-month job in December -- when I got my paycheck in January I went with a brand-new FIFA 12. :mrgreen:

So, now with a new, permanent job, I'm in need of a new game. Candidates:

- NBA Live 10
- Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
- Bayonetta
- Midnight Club LA
- Red Dead Redemption
- Vanquish
- Fight Night Champion / Round 4
- Brutal Legend

I'm guessing your basketball gaming is already covered by NBA 2K11 and NBA 2K12, so I'd probably go with Red Dead Redemption out of that shortlist.

For longevity sake i'd go red dead. Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom is great but never really changes much.

Yeah, that's what I thought after I finished writing. Pretend it's not there :lol: The games are in no particular order.

I would, but I always wait until the games get a discount. Right now, this new releases are close to $400 -- that would be over 90 dollars. It's painful. :P

Yeah I think RDR is the best pick of that list. I have until Saturday to choose. I never played a MvC game before, this new edition with the new characters makes it a great pick too.

If you want old but cheap titles, I'd definitely give a look at Heavy Rain, Nier, and MSG4. I haven't yet to try the RDR except the first 10 minutes but I had better first impression with GTA on PS3.

Lamrock wrote:PS3 is the best system because unlike 360's, they aren't all lemons. The exclusives are better, online is free, the controller is better (imo). Of those games listed, I'd go with GT5.

Uncharted 2 is fun, but while the graphics and spectacle are absolutely mindblowing in parts, the story is garbage and the gameplay isn't that fun. God of War III is a blast but it took two days for me to get to the final boss (and quit, because it was fucking stupid). GT5 does not make a good first impression, but it's extremely deep, is getting better all the time with patches and will take forever to beat. I'm not a hardcore gamer but I'd say I play video games 3-4 times a week, and I'm still only at Level 25 (in A-Spec)

Agreeing on Uncharted series. Uncharted 3 was my first game to play on PS3 but gameplay definitely was disappointing. The game itself tried to make everything way too dramatic but the story and gameplay stillsucked. IGN giving it 10 was way too generous. You can argue it may be because I haven't played previous ones before playing this one but I definitely felt more attached to MSG4 Snake rather than Drake and others in the game. I have Uncharted 1 which I still haven't opened but I don't really feel like giving it a try after Uncharted 3. Should be similar experience.

How about infamous 2 or Little Big Planet? There is also Dark Souls and Demon Souls but since none of them are in your choice I guess they are not yet cheap I guess.

I'd definitely recommend Dark Souls. Ridiculously rewarding game.

Agreed, It's very difficult though. I had stopped playing it a while ago because I had done something really stupid, ended up losing all of my 'souls' :cry:

Well, now my TV is going to the tech service, so a couple of weeks without my dear console (N) I'm gonna buy something as soon as I get my TV back.
