DVDs

Fri Apr 16, 2004 12:12 pm

I'm having problems with this DVD I burned. There is only one chapter that is about six hours long. The DVD plays in the Cyberlink PowerDVD program I have but I can't play the disc in Windows Media Player which does play other DVDs. Anyone have any suggestions on how to make the DVD work in Media Player?

How about stop posting on the matter if it's about illegal copys.
Of what else would you burn a DVD with?

Not all of us do illegal junk :? I have a Gateway DVD recorder that I use to burn DVDs of tapes I have (not copyrighted ones but ones I've made). Most of the DVDs are split into chapters but I made a few of them in just one chapter. These one-chapter ones won't play in Media Player but on Cyberlink Power DVD which isn't as good of a program to run DVDs with. But I can see now that Sweden's a bit behind the times so you're probably not going to be much help.

Here's what I have:

Huh? :?
All I was saying that the probibillity that you were burning movies were a lot higher than using it to burn old home made video-tapes.
You said "Not all of us do illegal junk"...

As for your question. I rather sure that there's special codecs for that matter. Does the player say anything, or does it just not play it.
There's also several ways to make chapters and manus and such things. What I think is the easy way is that if you compile an image on your harddrive of the video. And then edit it with a program or two.
Look around this site. There's plenty of tutorials and guidlines. http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvd.

Its not illegal to copy a dvd, if u own the original, u can by law make a backup copy, thats why all the software is LEGAL.

ROBBY Ur problem might be with ur .VOB files on the DvD, they have to be set up correctly for playback, if everything is 1 chapter its should still play, so thats not the problem. WMP is crap for DvD playback were as Cyberlink can play anything, its far from crappy my friend, u will not find a better all round player. Also u say its 6hrs long :?: :?: :?: Is that on a standard 4.4gb(4.7) or have u used a blue laser. If u have used a 4.4 and its 6 hrs long the only way u could have done that is with a "HALF CIF" encode which is a really shitty format. Im savvy when it comes to anything involving Video, and Andreas has given u the bible, i suggest u take a look .... www.dvdrhelp.com/dvd

Yea. But why do it when you already own it. And then you can only use it for personal use anyway... Exept for backupp making.
The same thing with MP3's and movies and whatnot. You can download how much you wan't. But you can't share anything to anyone.
(I don't know if that's an international law of if it's just in Sweden)

Well, sort of me, Robby and you so far.
Robbys statement: "Not all of us do illegal junk"...
You also refeered to it when saying "Its not illegal to copy a dvd...".
But if you were refeering to my first post in the thread. Then yes, I was assuming some of you was breaking the law

I'm sorry if I missunderstood something. But when someone creates a therad on a internet board wanting to know how to burn DVD's better, the natural conclution would be that it's for something illegal. For myself it's like that anyway. Let's not keep dwel on this. Let's get back on the toppic at hand instead.

Dahl, I only brought it up because your initial assumption was wrong. You shouldn't generalize like that. As for the problem, I figured out a roundabout way of playing the DVD but thank you Wiggle and Dahl for help anyways. Wiggle, the reason I don't like Power DVD is because it's too sensitvie, i.e. if there is little scratch on a DVD, the program usually won't play it or it'll stop in the middle and close. WMP doesn't have this problem so that's why I prefer it over Cyber Link.
