Rate my New PC

Sat Mar 12, 2011 2:42 pm

Ok so my goal was to buy a cheap PC for home use which still had good descent specs.

My new desktop which I just ordered is a Dell XPS 7100 minitower with the following specs

Windows 7 Home 64 Bit
AMD Phenom II X6 1045T (2.7 GHz) processor

ATI Radeon HD 5670 1GB GDDR5

6GB DDR3 SD RAM,1333MHz

1TB Serial ATA 2 Hard Drive 7200 RPM

$699.99 total

Do you guys think this is quite descent for playing relatively recent games as well?

I know the graphics card is not one of the best out there but it is definitely an upgrade over my 128MB Intel 910GL express chipset for which I have been disrespected on these boards often.

You guys think I got a fairly good PC for the price?

Yeah, I'd say you shouldn't have too many problems running games at decent settings with that system. ;)

Not a bad price all-up, I think you did alright.

Thanks. Well I hope I get free time to dedicate to games now. I cant wait till summer break so I can get my gaming fix in. I have had to quit because of interference with college and I work too now.

BTW do you think I can play NBA 2k11 at maximum in this atleast?

I'd say so, or close to it.

NBA 2K11 which I ordered online will arrive tomorrow for my new PC. For the first time ever I will be playing a current NBA game. Cant wait.

Close to it? All eye candy should be able to to be cranked with that system for 2K11. You should do fine with other games. 5670 is a good performing budget card.

Looking at that price tag, it makes me want to get a new computer, but I hate starting over and reconfiguring everything the way I like it. It takes too damn long.

Well here is the link if you want to buy one of these and you can customize the specs more if you want. It says $427 instant savings which is really good if they are not BSing and the offer stays still the end of Dec 2011. But idk I saw once this offer was going to end towards end of this April but they extended it it seems.

Why? I had a previous Dell desktop which was very durable. What is so bad about Dells?

Nothing really, imo. I compared a custom build of individual cpu components through newegg vs the exact same dell build a while ago when I was thinking about purchasing a new computer. Prices came out about the same, even a little less with Dell. Obviously a power user would want a custom build, but just paying for a Dell gives you a simple option of a pre-built cpu, that comes with a nice warranty. My Dad bought a Dell , ended up having to get it serviced since the hard drive failed. It was almost like an afterthought. We got a new drive, and a backup drive with the old data on it(not that it was really important). To each their own.

The XPS line is actually pretty good.

At least it's not Alienware.

ive never been a big fan of dell's since they do whatever they can to try to retain their customers so they aren't as "consumer friendly" as some may want them to be. i dunno if anything's changed since then, but this is just based off my previous experiences with them at circuit city. from what you guys say, they seem like they've improved since then.

their commercials were pretty cool back in the day though:

The XPS line is a specific gaming focused line.

Well, that certainly wasn't Circuit City's policy apparently.

That was worth the near-week wait.
