the main applications for linux ?

Hello, I have a few questions for Linux users.

I am going to install Mandrake Linux Community 10 on a second computer to see what this OS looks like.
I don't know yet what applications I am going to install with. Could you give me some advices please ?
What is the best MS Office equivalent software ? Mail software ? CD-burning ? I have found a list of programs which run under Linux but they don't speak to me.

I cannot tell you exactly when "Mandrakelinux 10 Community" was released.
About one month ago, I think.

MS Office equivalent software, u might want to have a look at www.openoffice.org, its free and they have Multi OS downloads including Linux. I use XP Pro (Hybrid Version) and i have Openoffice installed, its not bad, i can t really compare it to word cos i have never used it with xp only 98.

Thank you Wiggle. I've just taken a look and I'll try the openoffice version for linux.

Actually, for those who want to install linux, do not install the linuxmandrake 10 community because it's not even a beta release ! There are lots of problems with this OS. It's better to install the final release of version 9.2 !
