New Manager for Northampton
Northampton F.C. announced today that Ian Sampson has stepped down as manager of the club. His replacement, a 26-year-old inexperienced manager, Axel Gomez. Gomez is a former assisstant manager for his hometown club, the Houston Dynamo from the MLS. Many Northampton fans are questioning whether or not Axel can bring this club back to glory. Northampton holds the record for shortest time taken in ascending from the bottom to the top, and relegating back down again, in a span of nine years.
"I'm excited about being the manager of this club. I get hands-on experience at managing a club. My main goal is to try to get this club promoted as high up in English football as possible," Gomez said in a press conference. He also stated that during the NBA season, he'll be "busy" cheering on his Houston Rockets. Many people of Northampton don't have high hopes for this guy, and it may seem to them that another bad year is in store for our Cobblers.

Pre-Season Recap
Yeah, watching my team play, I don't like our defense. They are very unaware about what's going on, and leave everyone open. God, this is gonna be a long season. Well, let's get started.
Northampton Town 0-1 Cheltenham Town
Notes: We had three out of nine shots on target, with 49% possession of the ball. Cheltenham had two out of four shots on target, with 51% possession. Kevin Thornton was the only one with a yellow card.
This was a close game; the one difference was a goal in the fourth minute. Don't know the guy's name, but I don't care. Check out the goal for yourself:
Yeah, 'nuff said. We played scrub football.
We also lost against Bournemouth 2-0, and against the powerhouse Bayern Munich 3-0. Way to go team!!!
Northampton Town FC 2-2 Blackburn Rovers
Notes: Yildiray Basturk and Christopher Samba were the two booked players in this match, both from Blackburn.
Anyways, moving on to our best game so far. We nearly caused an upset against the Blackburn Rovers! We were up 2-0 at halftime, thanks to these two goals by Liam Davis, our now official go-to-guy (oh wait, this isn't basketball):
At the 67th minute, a header goal scored by El Hadji Diouf brought us back to Earth, and then a second chance opportunity at the 81st minute by Nikola Kalinic put us back on our heels. Sigh. Well at least I rest well knowing that we put up a great fight against a good team like the Rovers. Oh and by the way, almost half of our reserves started in this game! Some of our starters needed rest.
Well, I sure hope the regular season goes better for us. All I know, we need some defensive awareness for it.

Decent Start to the Season
August 2009- First off, let me get this out of the way: OUR DEFENSE IS A BUNCH OF SCRUBS AND FAGGOTS!!!!
There, steam let off. OK, so we kicked off the season with a win at Macclesfield:
Northampton FC 3-1 Macclesfield
Notes: We had 7 out of 14 shots on target compared to their 3 out of 7 shots on target. He had the ball 52% of the time, while they had it 48% of the time.
First off, I'd like to compliment Adebayo Akinfewa and Ryan Gilligan for scoring the goals for our side.First, Akinfewa started with this goal at the 23rd minute, and then the go-ahead goal at the 86th minute:
Reneil Sappleton scored a goal against us at the 56th minute, a goal in which our defenders just stood around waiting for our goalkeeper to bail them out.Well, after Akinfewa's go-ahead-goal, Ryan Gilligan put an exclamation point by scoring an easy one-on-one goal at the 88th minute. Great job guys.
Northampton Town FC 0-0 Crewe Alexandra
Notes: We had 1 out of 7 shots on targer while they had 2 out of 4 shots on target. Possession was won by them 52%-48%.
On a bad note, we were fortunate to tie against a better team, who has a girl name! Seriously, our defense was terrible, and our offense would send the ball into the stands on every shot.
Northampton Town FC 1-0 Brentford
Notes: We had 9 out of 15 shots on target, while they had 4 out of 7 shots on target.
Paul Walker, our back-up goalkeeper, was the hero of the game for us. He made some excellent saves, all of them in which he bailed out the lazy defense. The only goal was scored by Seb Harris. Watch it, and be amazed:
Well, maybe it wasn't that amazing, but this was the most important game out of the five we played, as it was the English tournament. Now we go to the second round.![]()
We closed out this 5-game stretch with a loss at Hereford 4-2, and then a tie at home against Grimsbury 2-2. We sit at 13th place in the league. So far, this team has the potential to ascend, but if we want to do that, our defense will have to play 100 times better.

Good luck with moving them up to League One

Good Defense... For One Game
September 5, 2009- After a decent start, we went 1-1-1 for this three-game stretch. I like what I saw from our defense, they like playing a slow paced game, and the result was no shots on target in the victory against Bury.
Northampton Town FC 1-0 Bury
Notes: We had 3 out of 5 shots on target, they had 0 out of 4 shots on target. We dominated the ball 60% of the time, while Bury just had it a mere 40%.
An early goal at the 13th minute was all the difference in the game. All thanks to Courtney Herbert, on a nice assist from Seb Harris, we won our second game, but on the road.![]()
We controlled the speed of the game, and with the pace very slow, it led to that goal. Near the end of the game though, Bury started speeding the game up, our defense was helpless, but we held on for a hard-fought W.
Northampton Town FC 1-1 Torquay
Notes: We had 1 out of 8 shots on target, while they had 1 out of 5 shots on target. Possession was even with 50-50.
The first half of this game was just atrocious. Our defense is really suffering from fatigue, and they allowed a goal at the 12th minute by Chris Zebroski. However, we came out in the second half determined to squeeze one point from this game. A defensive error from Torquay at the 64th minute allowed Joe Benjamin to score the easy goal. He celebrated it in an epic way.
That was the savior of the day, epic fail by the Torquay defense. Lee Hodges and Tyrone Thompson from Torquay were the only two booked players in the game.
We also lost at Shrewsbury 1-0. Andy Holt had a red card, way to go.We moved up two spots in the table; we sit 11th in the league now. We've yet to win a game at home.
