And someone who does not think the people should control the corporations instead of CEOs is someone who is in the pocket of said corporations, because no sane human would allow any business to steal their money for essential goods.

I think they act in a way which offers them the best chance of making money. Killing people generally isn't the best way to do that. Again, BP has lost billions of dollars because of this spill.

The people can control the corporations by choosing to spend their money elsewhere. If the government controls everything and the people have no other place to go for goods and services, the people have no control at all.

People do run the corporations. See, the way a corporation works is, the COMMON STOCK SHAREHOLDERS (not necessarily employees) each have votes pursuant to the number of shares they hold, or percent of ownership; with those votes, they vote for the board of directors. The board of directors choose the executives. The shareholders get a percent of the profit if the board of directors decide to pay a dividend; if they don't pay a dividend, they reinvest the profit into the company. What you are proposing is government takeover of corporations, which is, by definition, socialism or communism.

The people only care about their own districts and who will get them the most federal cash. The banning of corporations would destroy the tax revenue stream which would in turn destroy any sort of federal funding for anything. Everyone would have to work for the government otherwise they wouldn't have jobs. Government jobs are very strict in terms of pay grades and requirements for promotions, so there is a lot less incentive to do well at your job to move up...from what I've seen, ambitious types don't apply for government jobs - they apply at large corporations where they have more room for personal, professional, and bank account growth.

It's obvious YOU haven't studied economics. At any level. You're naive to think that any sort of government run economy will work; the free market corrects itself. The reason why the last bubble was so bad was because in the prior three recessions monetary policy was used to prop up the economy as opposed to letting a true market correction take place. Because of government intervention, companies that should have failed stayed afloat, interest rates were too low, money was/is too cheap, etc. A true free market economy is impossible, but there needs to be less government meddling in the economy. I'm not saying no regulations - I'm far from the laissez fare type - I'm saying that the regulations should be specific with no loop holes and there should be no government subsidies for ANYTHING as it pushes (as someone noted) companies into whatever area is being subsidized, be it soybeans, wind power, or gasoline.

Shadowgrin, BP paid me quite well...indirectly. I shorted them in April and bought back in when they were around $28/share last month. I did the same thing with Citi and keep putting limit orders in at $3.95...have a couple hundred shares of C now with a flat cost basis at the moment. I'll be sitting good if they hit their target of $5-8 a share.

Shut up about the green power already. As has been mentioned, the only reason the US is as reliant on gas as it is is because of government subsidies. Putting the government in control is hardly going to fix something the government broke.

Oh, you mean the same experts that encouraged/forced banks to lower lending standards? That provided subsidies for banks to lend to lower income people so they can buy houses, cars, etc? Yeah, I trust them. Shut up about green energy...if there weren't GOVERNMENT (your friend ) subsidies given to oil companies and farmers to producer gasoline and ethanol (due to the massive tax that the gov't tacks onto gasoline), then green energy would be further along because it would be seen as more profitable.

I'm still amazed that people are so in bed with corporations that they go on internet forums and attack people and spout lies for their corporate masters. They even blame the government, which is trying to help people, for every problem. Then they claim they're actually paying taxes when we know they aren't as nobody who cares about their fellow man would complain about paying taxes to save the country.
