Computer-retarted.

Postby Doobie on Mon Aug 02, 2010 6:40 am

Well guys I have a macbook, and sure I can type fast and do a few things, but I realized I never used any computer I've ever had to its full potential. I just use the basic itunes ichat and safari. Anyways I have a few questions..

What are some features that would be helpful? Like I don't even know how to force quit things. The basics. I've heard that there are ways to quickly switch between conversations on Aim and tabs on safari.

I accidentally deleted the area in my computer where I check how much memory I have left, where do I get that back. Is there a way to boost performance cause safari freezes a lot? Sometimes my computer slows down.

How do I permantly delete apps that I don't use? Are there any freeware apps that I might find heplful?

I guess I'll just explore things out on my own but any tips or suggestions on how to use my computer better would be helpful.

Force quit: cmd-option-esc
Switch applications: cmd-tab
Switch windows in the same app: cmd-~
Switch Safari tabs: cmd-shift-left/right

Not sure what you're talking about re: checking your memory. There's several ways of checking this, one being cmd-i on your hard drive icon. I guess you didn't get a lot of RAM, so you might have to quit (not close) some applications if you have too many open.

Go to your Applications folder either from the dock (if you have a folder there) or through Finder, click and drag the apps you don't use into the trash. Empty trash.

Explore System Preferences. Use Exposé. Use the Dashboard. Use hot corners. Use keyboard shortcuts. Google them all.
