Patchers Gallery..

Postby RedTorro on Wed Feb 11, 2004 11:18 am

How about having a patchers gallery? Each week set aside a section in the NLSC that recognizes some of the best patchers for each of the Live series if possible. This would be an excellent way to promote the talents that these patchers have. You could post screen shots of a patchers work along with mabey a lil bio of who the patcher is and why they enjoy patching. Trust me Andrew, from one Bulls fan to another.... that would like to see this place continue to grow, this would be fantastic. I mean we see the hard work that goes into some of these patches week after week, this would simply be a thank you from the NLSC for their commitment to making the game we all enjoy that much better. I'm not really keen on a section that promotes the "best patches" or the "best patchmakers". I can guarantee that there will be arguments and that some great work will be unrecognised at some point. I really don't like the idea of making patching more competitive than it is right now. It's supposed to be about enhancing and updating the game, and sharing those updates with others, not about who can be the best or who makes the most patches.

I'm sorry, but I feel it would cause more problems than it's worth. There are better ways to thank all the patchers who are doing great work in the community than ranking them and risking offending people and snubbing their work.

No need to snub anybody. I think there are enough patchers here to give everybody a fair shake at being a patcher of the week. We can start with the guys who have been here forever and work our way down. My intention is an exhibition not a competition. :D

When you're selecting awards, it does make it a competition and someone who is deserving of recognition will get snubbed at some point. Giving out patchmaking awards and rankings has always resulted in problems, so I'm sorry but I'm not in favour of the idea.

Because experience teaches you a few things. One of the things I've learned is that ideas such as these, even though they're conceived with good intentions, turn out to cause problems.

As Tony has already said and as other veteran patchmakers will also tell you, they've been done before and have been nothing but trouble. I'm open to suggestions, but whenever this idea comes up (and it does come up from time to time), I have to politely decline. I know what will happen, and I'd rather avoid the conflict and headaches.

It's great that you're thinking of ways to recognise people's work and give thanks to the many talented patchmakers in our community, but this particular idea has been done a few times before and just hasn't worked out as planned. Sorry.

Find then, I'll recognize the work and give them all dancing bananas  I think you guys are missing the point. There is no ranking invloved, it's simply saying hey here is some outstanding work.. "take a look" and heres a lil about the person who made it.

Same kind of thing. Any time patches or patchmakers are openly judged, ranked or endorsed by some "official" means, there are problems. The best way to thank patchmakers for their efforts is to thank them for their efforts.
