Windows 7 "GodMode"

Although its name suggests perhaps even grander capabilities, Windows enthusiasts are excited over the discovery of a hidden "GodMode" feature that lets users access all of the operating system's control panels from within a single folder.
By creating a new folder in Windows 7 and renaming it with a certain text string at the end, users are able to have a single place to do everything from changing the look of the mouse pointer to making a new hard-drive partition.

The trick is also said to work in Windows Vista, although some are warning that although it works fine in 32-bit versions of Vista, it can cause 64-bit versions of that operating system to crash.
To enter "GodMode," one need only create a new folder and then rename the folder to the following:
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
Once that is done, the folder's icon will change to resemble a control panel and will contain dozens of control options. I'm not sure it's my idea of playing God, but it is a handy way to get to all kinds of controls.
I've asked Microsoft for more details on the feature and how it came to be. But so far, Redmond is silent on the topic.
Opinions are my own.

Pretty nifty, but they still need T-C-Spacebar to do something cool.

Yes, a gratuitous Commander Keen reference.

obviously you can change the "GodMode" part of that string to whatever you want the folder to say, but it is cool to have all of this in one folder.

I hate anything that isnt the old XP classic view control panel

I've just tried it on my laptop, pretty interesting. There's too many options in there though but the good thing is they're all put into categories.

I am thinking to install 7, but my Vista is satisfying so don't really feel the needs to. Anyone using 7 with recommendation?

Windows 7 is a billion times more statisfying that Vista.
Not that many actual changes as far as daily use, but what they changed turned out great.

I haven't tried the full version as yet, still using XP myself but I did try the Release Candidate on my old machine and it ran just as well as XP, which impressed me.

Same here. It handles a bunch of hardware that is not compatible with Vista, and is faster than Vista. Plus it has a mode where you can run Windows XP.

Anyway I'm gonna try this GodMode stuff. (Y)

I am using Windows 7 64 bit version, and when I try to install iTunes, it won't let me install it. Any suggestions?

That is actually extremely helpful. I never used Vista so it helps me find a lot of the tools I used often on XP that arent as easy to find on this version.

Ok... I just installed Windows 7 and got rid of Vista. Was a hassle, but it seems it's all worth it.

One thing I am not used to is internet explorers all stacked in bottom left of corner, rather than being seperately placed throughout the bar so I can switch between them easily. Other than that so far so good...
