Program to create your own songs?

Mon Mar 28, 2011 9:58 am

So for wedding music Kathryn wanted to create our own songs, and now it's my responsibility to allow us to do that.

Do you guys know of any pay/free programs that will allow us to create music without instruments?

You could give this a try. It looks pretty neat.

ill check it out, but I was looking for something simple like TABit, but something that could give me a good sounding result. So not MIDI sounding but kinda like when you choose Symphony on an electric keyboard.

We are doing classical music, if that wasnt clear.

Not at fucking all  No idea bro, sorry.

yea this kinda got thrown into the back of my mind with the NCAA mod finishing up and some "dramz" here.

Pretty much, she wants classical music, a symphony, but she wants particular melodies and stuff. So tabit is the first thing that comes to my mine, but that is just midi, so I guess maybe I need something that can take midi notes and make them sound real.

Before reading the thread I thought Jao was inspired to follow the success of Rebecca Black.

If you're interested in the piani...

PIANO HERO! I mean Synthesia...

EDIT: Ah fuck it. Ignore post. It's the piani in midi.

fruity loops is for making beats if i remember right, i guess it could work if you had classical music instead of snare drums or something.

I used to use cakewalk back in the day. Had midi support and effect support and you could record wave tracks and apply all sorts of changes. If you are looking for a good sound, you will need a good sounding keyboard, or you need to find high quality soundfonts to use in place of microsofts simple gm wavetable set.

What do you mean by "particular melodies?"

maybe kathryn wants specific classical songs in the mix like pachelbel or marriage of figaro or moonlight sonata or something like that

More than a feeling and other classic rock riffs tabbed over to classical string instruments with background wind instruments with no percussion. Different songs for each person walking down the aisle.

The lack of details given before I think shows how enthusiastic I am over this. It's a great idea but I don't think its possible without learning the violin.

Just go buy some Ahn Trio albums and choose songs for each person.

EDIT:

If into Metallica, there's Apocalyptica - a classical (cello) band that covered some of Metallica's songs.

Recently discovered this while reading some YT comments - Vitamin String Quartet.
Wiki wrote:a group of Los Angeles musicians widely known for its series of tribute albums to rock and pop acts. Their albums are released through Vitamin Records and primarily performed by a string quartet, though other instruments have been used. "Vitamin String Quartet is about applying rock n' roll attitude to classical technique," says Tom Tally,a violist and arranger who has performed on and produced over thirty-five Vitamin String Quartet albums.

Their albums honor a wide variety of genres not limited to pop and rock, including techno, country, and rap

Samples!

With or Without You (U2)
YT commenter wrote:my sister wants this song to be the background for when she walks down the aisle to marry her beau.
Winning!

Freebird (Lynyrd Skynyrd)

Boys Don't Cry (The Cure)

You Shook Me All Night Long (AC/DC)

Don't Stop Believing (Journey)

Stairway to Heaven (Led Zeppelin)

You Look Wonderful Tonight (Eric Clapton)

Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen)

If you're really aiming for their faces to rain with tears, get Vitamin String Quartet's covers for Coldplay. Just realized that it was the ones being played on the wedding I went to last year.
The Scientist
Yellow

For kicks!
Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Daft Punk) (or Kanye, depending on the listener)

Double post to get Jao's attention and salvage the massive disaster.
See edited post above regarding Vitamin String Quartet, which may be the answer to the disaster.
Those guys covered a lot of songs/musicians from old to new.
Found that they have an album's worth for the musicians they covered so they have a lot of songs for each musician I linked above (Tribute to U2, Tribute to Led Zep, Tribute to Queen, etc.)

As to the editing of the music. I am rather lost on that.

A quick google-fu told me of FL Studio XXL and MAGIX Music Maker... dunno if they have some sort of classical effects, though.

it didnt go unnoticed, actually, I'm a little mad.

I loved that stuff, but I showed Kathryn that Chello cover of Smooth Criminal the other day and she hated it....

....sure enough, I wake up this morning to their version of "No Rain" and she's in love with it trying to figure out songs to use in the wedding.

So thank you shadow, even though she's undermined both of us by "finding it herself".

Don't be, let it go. It's nothing, like Oz said.
If there's one thing I learned from weddings and rumblings from wedded friends, it's the woman's call all the time.
It's the woman that's the star of the show/wedding so they want every detail to be perfect, even if perfect means ignoring what the groom wants and imposing what she wants. :P
I recall one of my mates, who only wanted the Superman theme to be played in the wedding. She turned down the suggestion, hard.
"it's my wedding too!", so my mates say (of course not in front of their wife).
