Black Friday! Buy! Buy! BUY!

Wed Nov 24, 2010 1:57 am

Anyone else going to brave any crowds on Black Friday?

Last year I was dragged into carrying 3 vacuums around a Walmart at 5am while picking up appliances that still haven't been used. But evidently I did such a good job that I've been recruited again for this year....only now we are in VT so the crowds will be much less in numbers and hostility.

Luckily everything "we" want is going on sale Midnight at Walmart so it should be a relatively easy in and out since we aren't trying to get a 50" Plasma for $400 or whatever. Right now the list is some 3 dollar appliances, towels for a buck, and then if I find some games I like.

Anyone else going out?

Still havent decided, it depends on my wakefullness at the midnight hour. Most of the deals ive seen i can do just as good on amazon/ebay so i may just stay home. Maybe hit gamestop at midnight, dunno.

anybody know of any good deals off the top of their head? i've really been out of the black friday loop ever since Circuit City went out of business. those 5 to 5 shifts were killer. I don't think it's worth waiting in line for a 50" plasma for $400 like Jao speaks of. i prefer to show up whenever i want and get whatever's left

Might go to Gamestop to get some cheapass games, my brother wants Goldeneye, maybe we'll go to get that

Gamestop didn't have shit for good deals for games. Walmart and Best Buy have some good discounts though.

As I said, I didn't see anything that wow'd me, but check out the ads.

Screw that, I'll be sleeping at that time. I don't really need anything anyway, I went kind of shopping crazy in the last few months.
I might check online during the day to see what kind of bargains they may have (especially on Newegg and Steam), but that's it.

I need a new GPU. Outside of that there's nothing really worth me paying the insane shipping costs if I were to buy stuff from the US.

Rationale is the last thing it has anything to do with at this point. Ask benji, he may know the history better than I do. But basically stores make a few big ticket items super cheap so they sell and make massive profits all in a weekend or so. Its insane and really unless theres something specific you see in the ad, its not worth the crowd fights. Just today i didnt leave my house and got a new digital camera for my girl that retail is 130, actually sells for about 90-100, and then 40 more bucks off...so yeah. Screw it.

Yeah, after posting I thought I worded my question pretty bad. But you guys get that I'm asking what it is and why it happens. :)

it's the day of the fiscal year that is thought to be the day companies go from the red (negative profits) to black (positive). they market big ticket, low profit items at a low cost to get customers in the door, but with such few quantities, harcore shoppers camp out to get them and then when the rest of the people show up for deals they wind up spending money anyways. it's all about the whole "i'm spending because I'm getting a deal" mentality people get sucked into. people like my mom wind up buying stuff they never use.

Same thing here.

And Sit, let's say people are desperate; some have shot, trampled, or killed on Black Friday (Y)

already back, no busier than when everyone goes grocery shopping after church on Sundays. I got infamous and uncharted 1 for 10 bucks each and my wrasslin game for 30.

then we got 3 $2 tubs, some presents for our parents, a griddle/processor/mixer/waffle maker/tupperware all for less than $20.

then milk and cinnamon buns for the morning cause, fuckit, we were at walmart.

Kathryn is going to be up all night doing the online deals and we might go an hour away to a "big town" with a Staples, Kohls, and something else I don't give a shit about......I got my games, I'm happy.

Benji showed me a NewEgg one, there are the Steam sales, and Amazon.com has plenty of deals.

amazon pretty much has everything walmart has (game wise) but since I was there I'd rather just pick it up than order it

Is NCAA Football 11 any good? I might get it pre-owned with a gift card

Newegg apparently had some crazy ass bargains on HDTVs and PC components, but most are already sold out. I'm surprised Steam didn't have more offers, only Batman: AA for $10 caught my attention, but they usually have more bargains than that. Actually, they tend to reserve them for Christmas.
