Ankle Sprain treatment

Thu Mar 05, 2009 12:46 pm

Basketball forum and all, there has to be a few posters here who've sprained their ankles.

I'm wondering, what treatments have you all used? Physiotherapy, massage, etc.

I'm still not fully recovered from my type 2 ankle sprain that I suffered last fall. It's been 4 months already, and ankle is still slightly swollen and sore. I've been seeing a physiotherapist for 2 months already, and it's improved, but still not 100%. Not even 80-90% imo. Since my student premium is already used up, I'll have to pay full price to do physio, which got me thinking of alternative methods. I was strongly thinking of massage therapy, but I'm not sure about that.

Anyone has any stories and suggestions?

By now you should be working on strengthening the ligaments. One thing that I used, and still do, is the agility disc (cushion-like thing) Great for strengthening all the ligaments in your foot and ankle because it involves balancing on it which might sound easy but quite difficult when you are in the rehabilitation stage. One thing I will tell you is that you won't be able to get your ankle back to 100% no matter what you do (not sure about surgical ways).

ankle sprains are rough. i remember when i sprained mine i could still feel some soreness 2-3 years after. soreness would not be from playing, rather if i just left my foot in one spot the whole time
