basketball question again

Sun Nov 16, 2008 10:19 pm

So I'm around 6 feet... and my weight is only 142-144 pounds..... And I play SF/PF position at the moment... I don't really want to play PF because of my weight and strength... but at the moment.. my dribble is really bad right now and it forces me to play at PF... I can grab decent board and I have this quite good baby hook. I am also somewhat consistent mid-range and not bad pass.
Right now i just feel weird about my jump shot... My shot was bad before as I tend to fake when I shot and before i shoot a pretty low arc... now I improved my jumpshot a bit and i try to take more balanced shot... However, it seems that my baby hook is better than my jump shot even though it only requires one hand.. in fact, i seem to be able to shoot more acurate with one hand than two hand during practices... Can anyone suggest me on what i'm doing wrong.. I also jump really high for jumpshots. Any suggestions for improvement?

Sounds like you are using too much of your off hand when you shoot with two hands. The off hand is only there to keep the ball steady during your shot attempt, so try not to use it when you shoot, just hold it there and when you decide to release the ball, only extend your shooting arm. When you release the ball, it should feel like it is coming up off your fingertips, not pushed outward toward the rim, as pushing outward results in the low arc. Try to shoot in the most comfortable way to you, so it doesn't fee like you are forcing a certain form or so it doesn't feel mechanical, but natural.

As for dribbling, take a basketball with you to school and dribble it anytime you are walking. Make sure you don't look at the ball while dribbling, and change up your dribble sometimes. Dribble twenty times with your right, twenty with your left, twenty crossovers, twenty between the legs, and twenty behind the back dribbles. Everytime you have to look at the ball, restart your count.

Strengthening your leg muscles would be the way to go. If you're serious about your basketball, perhaps you might want to look into one of those vertical leap enhancement programs (jumpsoles and the like).

Sounds like you're implying about practice.
You talkin' about practice? Not a game, practice? Practice?

I'm so disappointed, shadow. Mocking Iverson :shake: Only he can make fun of himself.
