It's official. Martina Hingis is a crack whore.

The International Tennis Federation said an independent anti-doping tribunal found that Hingis, who announced her retirement Nov. 1 on the day she revealed the positive test, had committed an offense.

The 27-year-old Hingis denied using cocaine, but the tribunal rejected suggestions there were any doubts over her sample.

Although the five-time Grand Slam winner is now retired, Hingis' suspension is backdated to Oct. 1. She has three weeks to contest the ruling and punishment.

The ITF disqualified Hingis' results from last year's Wimbledon and any subsequent tournaments she played in. She also forfeits any ranking points gained and $129,481 in prize money.

There was no immediate reaction from Hingis, who dominated women's tennis between 1997-2000 by winning three straight Australian Opens, Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. She was twice a runner-up at the French Open where her loss to Iva Majoli in 1997 stopped her winning all four Grand Slams that year.

Hingis returned to the sport in 2005 after a four-year absence because of injuries.

When announcing her retirement at a news conference in Zurich, Hingis denied ever using cocaine.

"I find this accusation so horrendous, so monstrous that I've decided to confront it head on by talking to the press," she said. "I am frustrated and angry. I believe that I am absolutely 100 percent innocent."

So that's why she became thin as compared before her first retirement.

She believes she's innocent? Why not say, "I am absolutely 100% innocent." ?

Sun Jan 06, 2008 9:06 am

Is "unknowingly" using crack considered as innocent?

Sun Jan 06, 2008 11:06 am

Is this really any of our business?

Honestly.

Sun Jan 06, 2008 12:50 pm

Nah, except for the fact it gives me the excuse to recycle some bad drug jokes.

Sun Jan 06, 2008 4:18 pm

Aren't you going to tell us any, then?

Ignorance is not an excuse.

Sun Jan 06, 2008 8:06 pm

Mainly the stupid, obvious jokes relating to tennis and drugs..."hitting the lines" and "forehand that's almost as big as the forehead".

Tue Jan 08, 2008 12:48 pm

I think those refer to steroids.

Tue Jan 08, 2008 7:03 pm

You do get it right?

Cocaine...bad pun on "aiming for the lines", "big head" can refer to both...

Tue Jan 08, 2008 10:15 pm

I think this can now be added to the "when jokes go bad" selection.

i cant belive people are making such a big deal out of this. its not as if the drugs she took were performance enchancing in anyway. wether she took cocaine or not it dosent take away from her achievements as a tennis player.

and whos to say she isnt actually innocent anyway? just last week a man was released from deathrow after 15 years after it was found he was wrongly convicted.

To the first part of your post: its bullshit anyway though. At any high level of competition; you sign a contract that says you will abide by the doping agency guidelines. The drugs that are banned, be it performance enhancing or not, you agree not to do. There is no excuse. You sign the contract, dont be stupid enough to do the drugs...also the effects of cocaine could be considered performance enhancing:
Increased blood pressure
Constricted blood vessels
Dilated pupils
Mental alertness
Increased energy
Increased heart rate
Decreased appetite
Increased temperature
Basically it makes it a) so she doesnt have to warm up (body temp up, heart rate already up) and b) gives her more energy and more alertness...IMHO, that would enhance your performance

However i do agree she is innocent until proven guilty.

lol she didnt take it before a game, it was a random drug test outside of competition she failed. every player takes a drug test during every tournament, so that proves she didnt take it for competitions and thus it aint performance enchancing.

and take it from me it dosent enchance any physical performance what so ever.

Thu Jan 24, 2008 4:01 am

so that proves she didnt take it for competitions and thus it aint performance enchancing.

That is the best logic I've seen since the fact that Kobe should make the All-Star team because he didn't rape that girl. That doesn't prove that it isn't performance enhancing, just that we still don't know if she ever took it to enchance her performance during tournaments.

and take it from me it dosent enchance any physical performance what so ever

Yes, tempo, either what illni posted was BS, or the crack you are familiar with are cheap ones with no use. I'd bet on the latter.

Thu Jan 24, 2008 1:45 pm

You ignored the part where she broke a contract she agreed to

Thu Jan 24, 2008 9:38 pm

lol at you thinking you no it all. and lol at you thinking crack is cocaine. thats like saying dope is weed or lager is whisky. listen, i have taking cocaine and it dosent remotley enchance anthing to do with sports, if that makes me so bad then so be it, but im personally speaking from experience, where do you get you "so right" opinions from then? dick!

Thu Jan 24, 2008 9:40 pm

and by the way you little kobe story made no sence to me whatsoever, u tripping boy?

Fri Jan 25, 2008 6:04 am

There's no need for personal attacks. Chill out. The thing is, as a sports figure, she shouldn't take drugs.

Fri Jan 25, 2008 8:12 am

Tempo JT's point is just because she didnt get busted taking it during competition doesnt make it non peformance enhancing, it just means she didnt take it then...but ive had enough of that debate.

Drex sorta has a point but really it still boils down to the contracts you sign as an elite international athlete. If you sign a contract and break it, you get the punishment, it doesnt matter whether your breaking of the contract helped you win, lose, or made you do cartwheels.

Fri Jan 25, 2008 9:47 am

Yes, pardon me for not knowing anything too much about drugs. I do think that is a good thing. Apparently, I don't roll with the "gang". I assumed so because of the title of this thread.

Anyway, for the Kobe story, go see the "Predict All-Star Teams" thread in NBA Talk.

Fri Jan 25, 2008 10:41 am

Tempo shut the hell up. God you annoy me.

Fri Jan 25, 2008 7:12 pm

^^ well sorry pal but whatever im over it. All i was saying was that only because she took cocaine dosent take away from all her grand slam victories in the sense that yeah she signed the contract that stipulates the no drug taking but i think she won them tournaments on good merit if you know what i mean.

Sat Jan 26, 2008 7:40 pm

tempo wrote:lol at you thinking crack is cocaine

It is...
From Wiki wrote:Crack cocaine is a highly addictive form of cocaine that is popular for its intense high. It is a diluted form of the drug and a small amount of cocaine can be expanded into increasingly larger and weaker amounts of crack cocaine. It is a cheaper form of powdered cocaine

The article didn't sepcifically state that it was pure cocaine or crack cocaine she took. Also, I just wanted to put the words "crack whore" in the title.
tempo wrote:take it from me it dosent enchance any physical performance what so ever.

Proof or ban.

tempo wrote:i think she won them tournaments on good merit if you know what i mean

No, I don't know what you mean. Maybe I should take crack to get what you're talking about.

Wed Jan 30, 2008 1:07 am
