NLSC Football pick'em challenge (wk 8 up)

Sat Sep 22, 2007 11:09 am

alright i dunno how many American football fans we got here, but i'm gonna start a prediction league. it works like traditional sports betting with a spread and everything. most correct picks wins a week. tie breaker is the person closest to the Monday Night score. most total correct picks at the end of the season gets a special prize. tie breaker for that will be most weekly wins.

Suggestion: Why don't we put some "fake money" (or weigh the games) into this so we can put more on the ones we are sure about and less about the borderline calls?

Are we allowed to give opinions on them?

sure why not...

imo, I think the Tampa game is pretty solid. they've been a really good team so far in the season against a pretty shaky STL team.
The NE 16.5 pt spread is ridiculous but the team's been on fire so I expect them to cover.

oh and one more thing. any posts/edits after the games have started will be disqualified.

Mon Sep 24, 2007 6:23 am

Well, NE won by a landslide over a good Chargers squad. No reason they're not gonna do it against the (imo) crappy Bills. If the spread was like, -30, I'll take Buffalo.

Duh. Wait, aren't mods allowed to edit other people posts without leaving a mark? Oh well, have to trust you on this one.

RE-POST EDIT: Hey, what happens if the there is a tie after the spread is counted? Indy won 30-24, and the spread is -6. :?

Hey, Qballer, aren't you gonna post the results? Even the MNF's done.

i'd have to say that was a great call on Tennessee, dan suth. and who knew Philly would go off that that

i think NE over Cinci is the easiest pick this week. and Dallas -13 is pretty solid as well.

The ones I feel 100% confident about are Baltimore -4, Green Bay -1.5, and Detroit +3. I'd put all my money on Green Bay covering, though. Even though it's at Minnesota, I just can't see how the Packers are only giving 1.5 points when they are 3-0 and Minnesota is easily one of the weakest teams in the league. I don't feel so good about taking New England, but it's the "safe" pick. I can see Cincinnati putting up 28 points on them out of nowhere.

Fri Sep 28, 2007 3:30 pm

But Rudi Johnson's missing in action Sunday, might that affect them?

Oh yeah, I think the Packers definately cover the spread against Minny and then some...unless Brett returns to his 2005 form (please no, please no...)

Shitz, I frogot to give a result for Chicago v Detroit :P

Fri Oct 05, 2007 5:19 pm

can i join?
Week 5

Arizona/-3.5/@St. Louis (for gods sake its the rams, this years joke, they're going down)
Baltimore/-3.5/@San Francisco (Baltimore's D looks aged and ragged; they're in trouble)
@Denver/-1.5/San Diego (picked solely because i have rivers and LT in fantasy)
@Green Bay/-3/Chicago (Chicago, just not the same this year, Favre will eat them)
@Houston/-5.5/Miami (the expansion team finally got some talent, dont expect a huge score but the dolphins are so bad, Houston has to win)
@Indianapolis/-10Tampa Bay (is there even a question here?)
Jacksonville/-2/@Kansas City (KC is in a battle with the Rams and Miami for worst team in the NFL, Jags FTW)
@New England/-16.5/Cleveland (Brady+Moss=Super Bowl Bound)
@New Orleans/-3/Carolina (cant pick against my boys with deuce out and a struggling brees, Saints feel good story may be ending soon)
@NY Giants/-3.5/NY Jets (Its not that the giants are that good, its i expect pennington or his backup to throw at least 2 INTs that give eli and co a chance to score, always a mistake)
@Pittsburgh/-5.5/Seattle (Hasselbeck doesnt look nearly as good as he used to)
@Tennessee/-8.5/Atlanta (by some miracle vince young wins alot, at least enough to beat out a team so desperate they actually got Joey Harrington and Byron Leftwich picked up from FA's)
@Washington/-3.5/Detroit (sleeper pick, Jason Campbell, go back to college; this Washington team is just not that good, not to say detroit is, but they should win)

Monday, Oct 8
Dallas/-10/@Buffalo (Romo is going to decimate the Bills D)
