Question about college hoops?

I have a few quick question about the college game that i need clearing up.
Q1. If a player finishes his degree in 3 years can he come back for another year and only play basketball without having to go to class?
Q2. Can a player only play college basketball for 4 years or is it as long as they are studying? What i mean is can a player just keep doing degree after degree and play college sports for the whole time?
I was just wondering because at the Uni i went too (in Australia) there were guys who have been at Uni for 7 years who still play sports for the uni squad.
Any help with these queries would be appreciated.
