Television Shows Thread

Thu Nov 09, 2006 7:50 am

I see one for music, one for movies, all sorts of threads for sports, but no current television show thread? Well if this catches on, cool...if not thats fine too.

The reason I created this is after viewing Borat and getting over my initial shock I decided to rent the 2 USA seasons of Da Ali G Show. For those of you who have no idea what i'm talking about there is a comedian named Sacha Baron Cohen. He has a television show where he plays three characters: ali g (a suburban londoner who speaks with a jamaican accent and thinks he's black), Borat (the kazakstahn TV reporter trying to learn about america who seems obsessed with the male body and the word anus), and Bruno (a gay austrian fashion reporter). It used to come on HBO, i'm not sure if he's still doing it or not since the "joke" is out. I'll have too look it up later and report back. So a few questions...
1. Anyone else watch this show? it is definitely one of my new favorites
2. Are people really this stupid? This guy completely leads them into everything racist/homophobic/ignorant they say and they completely fall for it. As Bruno, he got a hairdresser in hollywood to say he wanted to kill all those motherfuckers in the middle east...
3. How do people like this end up not in fights/arrested? Much like the jackass guys, i always wonder how they dont get the shit kicked out of them.
4. Who would you wanna see interviewed by each character for the best reactions?

Now for my answers
2. apparently yes...my fave part i think was with borat talking to a vietnam vet (which i have complete respect for, just not his views) and he gets him to go on a rant about how the gays need to all move to san francisco or something along those lines. But then borat asks to touch his bulge and the guy has no problem...does that make any sense whatsoever? No and that is the beauty of it.
4. I would love to see Ali G with either John Kerry or Bill Clinton...for some reason i just think that would be greatly amusing. For Borat, I'd like to see him interview Madeline Albright. She would have no idea what the hell to do. And finally for bruno, there is no other choice than Arnold Schwarzenegger....

You didn't mention that Borat has a movie out now, maybe you didn't know. It looks hilarious. Sacha Cohen is a genious.

He mentioned that he created this thread specifically because of Borat in the first sentence of the second paragraph.

My TV shows that I watch on a weekly basis at this point in life: House, America's Next Top Model (my girlfriend watches it)... and my two favorites: American Dad and Family Guy.

Thu Nov 09, 2006 9:40 am

My favorite TV show right now is Friday Night Lights by far...I also watch The Office, but season 2 was much better than season 3 thus far IMO. The Biggest Loser is the only reality show I've ever watched...but now with the NBA season underway, my DVR is going to be put to work, because NBA takes top priority over all of these shows.

The only show I need to watch or else I'll die each week: LOST

I also really like Grey's Anatomy. My fiance's in medical school so we watch it together and really enjoy it. Entourage is also top notch, as is Heroes.

I also watch, sporadically: Nip/Tuck, House, Law & Order: SVU

Heroes....thats all I can think of for now.

My favorite show by far is Entourage. What a fantastic show, I can't wait for the new episodes in January.

Other shows I like: Weeds, South Park, Family Guy, The Simpsons and Seinfeld.

Thu Nov 09, 2006 9:48 am

Yeah other than my recent addiction to Ali G, i'm a Simpsons/South Park/Family guy kind of person. I like American Dad but i can never get as into it, it has too many weird for the sake of weird moments (although i will admit the saudi arabia 2 parter was priceless). The only other TV shows i watch often are the Daily Show, Colbert Report, and Sportscenter/Around The Horn/PTI. However i no longer have cable because i'm a cheap bastard so i've been just watching movies as of late.

Thu Nov 09, 2006 9:59 am

  • The Shield.
  • The Sopranos.
  • House.

That's all.

Thu Nov 09, 2006 10:03 am

Yea I like House as well but I'm always lucky to catch it. I guess its because I havent seen every episode because I tend to stick to stuff when I catch it from the beginning. Thats why I dont watch Lost cuz I know I missed alot of the story.

He didn't say anything about the Borat movie, he was talking about TV only- and Borat has been on TV for a great while now. I just assumed he was talking about seeing him on TV or on YouTube or something. My mistake, I suppose.

Thu Nov 09, 2006 10:56 am

My mistake Donatello, i didnt clarify you're right. In the movie thread, i mention seeing the movie and not knowing what to think of it. I apologize for the confusion.

Thu Nov 09, 2006 10:56 am

It's been cancelled...but Arrested Development. The most well-writen show I have ever seen. Easily.

As for shows currently on TV.
Scrubs
The Office
My Name Is Earl
House
Studio 60
Daily Show
Colbert Report
Mythbusters

My Name Is Earl
Everybody Hates Chris
Drawn Together
One Tree Hill

and...

TNA Impact if you consider that a regular TV Show
I've also started with Grey's Anatomy. I downloaded it but I've only started with a few episodes from the first season.

Thu Nov 09, 2006 2:09 pm

South Park

I think we all need a group hug :) I thought he meant the movie and I had no idea there was actually a TV show called Borat. I thought it was just Ali G. My mistake.

Thu Nov 09, 2006 4:43 pm

There's no TV Show called Borat, so he would've been talking about the movie in the first post. Borat is on TV, but only on Da Ali G Show. Being as he said he watched the show after viewing Borat it makes even more sense he had seen the movie. And he verified it anyways.

Moving on from pointlessness...

Oh, a couple other shows from me:
BET Top 25. Yeah the station sucks for the most part, but they get rappers and celebrities and the like to come on Saturdays and do their top 25 videos. Kobe was on last week and his was absolutely amazing. Full of fantastic old Wu-Tang videos, Jay videos, some Eric B. & Rakim, a little "ATLiens", it was just fantastic. 8 thumbs up.

Video On Trial - It's a show on MuchMusic here in Canada. They play popular music videos to comedians. And the comedians make fun of them. Fantastic.

Inside the Actor's Studio. Shut up. It's really interesting.

It can be confusing when there's Sasha Cohen, Ali G, and Borat as the same person :?

That was great the first few times I've watched it, but over time the comedians just got dull. I don't know if it was a couple of bad episodes I've watched. Ah well.

dragoneball Z and GT! although its over its still a good anime to watch

Thu Nov 09, 2006 7:43 pm

Prison Break is my number 1 show.

Curb Your Enthusiasm (ROFLMFAO ALL FUCKING DAY)

Thu Nov 09, 2006 8:03 pm

Prison Break
Lost

Does nobody else here watch Entourage?

Fri Nov 10, 2006 1:57 am

Just for reference, I wasn't saying that the TV show was called Borat. :P And I was never upset.

Anyway, I don't really watch TV. I'll watch Heroes (you can watch the full replay of the previous episode on nbc.com, so I watch it that way), or Law & Order reruns on TNT.
