James Bond or Jason Bourne

Mon Oct 30, 2006 9:35 am

This is from a question of a friend who's in this whole Jason Bourne phase (Matt Daaaamon....)...

So what do you guys think?

I'm not a fan of either Bond or Bourne so I wouldn't have a clue. Please educate me!

EDIT: The question is, who would win in a fight?

Mon Oct 30, 2006 9:52 am

Bond is better. His gadgets pwn Bourne's..

Mon Oct 30, 2006 10:05 am

I'm all for Bourne. He's quick, extremely intelligent, knows multiple languages, very precise with all of his weapons, and also has a bunch of gadgets. Bond is just a pig, a lucky pig.

Mon Oct 30, 2006 10:28 am

Bourne couldn't hold a candle to Bond.

Mon Oct 30, 2006 10:52 am

Bond's car > all

Mon Oct 30, 2006 10:54 am

Cy knows what's up. Jason Bourne is far above Bond. And he would tear him apart in an actual fight.

Mon Oct 30, 2006 12:29 pm

Im a Bourne fan. Bourne > Bond

Bond is sophisticated, Bourne is agile & much more skilled it seems.

Bond relies on his gadgets a lot more than Bourne does, what I also like about Bourne is he can be realistic, deadly & jaw dropping at the same time.

Bond is either too over the top, all Gigolo type deadly and...well...he doesn't strike fear in my heart. I'd love to meet Bond face to face, I'd hate to meet Bourne.

That's what adds to his image, Bourne's that is. Bourne wants to be left alone, he's been pushed in to a corner way too often and is tired of it. Bond likes playing with people, he enjoys the attention, Bourne doesn't. Bond doesn't shy away from the spotlight, he adores it.

Push someone far enough and he'll snap, Bourne snapped.

And to Axel's "Bond's car > all" I counter you with this...

Bourne's driving > all.

First off, I'd like to say the Bourne books are way better than the movies, although the movies are really well done.

I'm obviously going with Bourne here. He's trained to kill, it's just instinct to him. Bond needs help from his friends to give him an advantage. He wouldn't stand a chance against Jason Bourne. David Webb maybe, but not Bourne. Actually, that's another good point. Bourne would have an easier time stalking Bond because he can act like Webb. There's no way Bond wouldn't stand out in a crowd.

Bourne....Bond would come unstuck by a woman....meanwhile as Cy said, Bond is just lucky....

Mon Oct 30, 2006 2:23 pm

bond!!!!

I would rather own a nice car then know how to drive one really, really fast. as long as i can drive it, and i have it, i'm fine.

I would rather get the girl(s), then know how to throw an uppercut.

I would rather be lucky then have to work really really hard for the same outcome.

I would rather almost die being suffocated by famke janssen's hot hot thighs than whatever gay, manly way bourne could ever almost die.

I don't want to be in any way associated with matt damon.

i dunno.... bond is old school, but bourne appeals more to today's people i'd think.

James Bond's abilities seem to have been sold a little short thus far. True, womanising is a big part of his character and his scrapes have always involved a little bit of luck but he's supposed to be an elite spy whose skill and resourcefulness allow him to make his escapes and victories over villains look easy. You don't save the world/foil as many criminal mastermands as often as 007 purely by luck.

Jason Bourne would have the advantage in pure hand-to-hand combat and he's an elite operative as well but I feel that Bond's ingenuity would prevail.

In any case, I'd be pulling for Bond to win since it would be a more entertaining conclusion. A Bond victory would no doubt involve a nifty trick and a pithy one liner to end on. A Bourne victory would likely see Bond's bloody demise followed by some brooding commentary.

Mon Oct 30, 2006 3:54 pm

well, Bourne is closer to reality than Bond is. Bond can't wipe his ass without his gadgets, which are pure fantasy.

Bourne is way cooler than Bond... except Bond gets more women :? Bourne would probably win in a fight, but Bond would then proceed to get like 73 women to lick his wounds clean

I wouldn't call the technology in Bond pure fantasy since it usually has some kind of scientific basis; it's not as though he utilises magic powers. Not everything Bond does is related to gadgets either. Besides, the Bourne movies (like most movies in the action genre) feature vaguely superman sequences with people being able to sustain several heavy blows to the head before they're really affected by it. Both characters overcome incredible odds in a one man vs the world scenario.

Ultimately, realism is neither here nor there. It's a fictional battle between two fictional characters. Each would have the skills and weaponary they boast in their respective films.

If you threw Bond and Bourne into a room with no gadgets or tools, bourne would win it in a canter. The only thing Bond would throw at Bourne would be a handsome pout or a witty remark (such as "Hey Jason, 'remember' me??"). Bond's luck can only last so long.

Mon Oct 30, 2006 7:36 pm

In a 1 on 1 all out fistfight, Bourne would walk away from that one with some bruises and whatnot. And while that is great and all, that's not what they're trained to do. When it then comes to a 'job' type situation, Bond would come away on top every time. (And by 'on top', I mean of course having sexed up any reasonably hot girl on the scene.) Oh, and he'd also finish the mission. And that's what matters in my oppinion.

Mon Oct 30, 2006 9:25 pm

What makes you think Bourne wouldn't be able to complete the mission? He's a gun for hire, except he's "retired".

Tue Oct 31, 2006 2:14 am

At least we all know Jason Bourne as one face rather than knowing James Bond as a plastic surgery freak after every new movie he's in.

Tue Oct 31, 2006 5:19 am

Sean Connery Bond will win against every Bond and Jason Bourne put together. We all know this. C'mon.

Tue Oct 31, 2006 9:19 am

The new Bond look isn't very Bond to me... what do you guys think of a blonde Bond?

Tue Oct 31, 2006 9:21 am

you also have to consider the fact that Bond is at least 7-10 years older than Bourne. Bourne is supposed to be in his late 20's, in almost every bond movie, connery or brosnan or whoever, he looks mid to late 30's at the youngest.

On top of that, bourne is much bigger and is more directly trained for military purposes. Half of what bond does is investigate and negotiate. Bond seems to know a lot of fighting tactics, but bourne knows just as many, plus more quickness and strength. On top of that, Bourne's pain tolerence is much higher.

Though I'd give bond the coolness factor and the intelligence and gadgets and cars, Bourne would definitely win in a fight.
