WE10/PES 6 THREAD

Sun Oct 29, 2006 3:09 am

Since the game is about to be released (or is already?) I figured I would make a thread where we can all happily discuss how wonderful the game is or how much better/worse it is compared to FIFA 07.

Pro Evolution Soccer 6 was officially released in the U.K. on Friday the 27th of October 2006 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and PC platforms. The DS and PSP versions will follow on the 3rd November. A criticism of the previous version was that the game was too unforgiving and so suppressed fluid attacking football. Pro Evolution Soccer 6 promises to 'embrace the beautiful game' with more tricks and an overall more attacking mentality, with players encouraged to take people on. More licensed teams are promised, along with new boots, hairstyles and an improved Master League. More licenses are included, including fully licensed international kits with England, Spain and Italy to name a few (as well as the ever present Japan license) the French Ligue 1 Orange is now fully licensed plus more club licenses, including Manchester United, Olympiakos and Bayern Munich. A Bundesliga licence was supposed to happen but Konami were forced to remove the Bundesliga licensing, which means the Bundesliga will not be present in PES6, not even as a series of unlicensed teams.

An Xbox 360 release is present and scheduled for 27th October although shops have been misinformed and have been told to release it on the 25th. It features next-generation, Hi-Definition graphics and more animations, but gameplay similar to the console versions, according to a recent interview with Seabass. Suprising though in PES6, close-up replay detail of the players (especially of the face and hair detail) is not as good as the previous version, PES5. The Xbox 360 version also finally introduces the Pro Evolution series to widescreen gaming, a feature that was sorely missing from its PS2 and Xbox versions of the game. Some of the gameplay and editing options have been severely stripped down for the 360 release (not even team or stadium names can be edited in PES6). Konami claim this was due to lack of time, but a common view is that these editting features may appear later for gamers to download for a small charge (via the XBox 360 Live Marketplace). In addition it is not possible to save replays on the Xbox 360 version despite the manual claiming that it can be done. Whether or not Konami will release a fix for this on the popular Xbox Live service remains to be seen. A new DS version is set, with gameplay and graphics reminiscent to the Playstation Pro Evolution Soccer games. The graphics engine on the PC will not utilise the next-gen 360 engine but will again be a direct conversion of the PlayStation 2 engine.

* Although players retire in the game, the players reincarnate later, available as 17-year olds in the "Newcomers" section.

* The UK version of PES 6 has England and Chelsea captain John Terry (who, together with Arsenal's Thierry Henry poses on the cover of Pro Evolution Soccer 5) as its cover star. He is actually a huge fan of the PES series. He is known to arrange PES tournaments for his team mates at Chelsea, as well as bringing copies of the game with him when on international duty. Also Adriano Leite Ribeiro accompanies Terry.
* The French version of PES 6 has Didier Drogba and Thierry Henry as cover stars.[1]

* The Australian version of PES 6 has John Aloisi as its cover star. Aloisi is a huge fan of the series.

* The German version of PES 6 has Adriano Leite Ribeiro and Roque Santa Cruz on the cover.

* The Swedish version of PES 6 has Adriano Leite Ribeiro and Kim Källström on the cover.

* The Polish version of PES 6 has Adriano Leite Ribeiro and Maciej Zurawski on the cover.

* The Spanish version of PES 6 has Adriano Leite Ribeiro and Cesc Fàbregas on the cover.

* The Portuguese version of PES 6 has Adriano Leite Ribeiro and Deco on the cover.

* The Pro Evolution Soccer series has wide and devoted international fanbase, with online and LAN competitions regularly held and organised over the internet. They are often critical of the FIFA series, Pro Evolution Soccer's main competitor.

* Game leaked in French 11th of October, 2006

* Game leaked in English 24th of October, 2006

WE10 is out for PC too? Never knew that, but I know for PS2 it's been out for quite a while already... Awesome gameplay and no stupid refs calling gay fouls like WE9! (Y)
Winning Eleven's are way way better than EA's FIFA...

Also if you have it on PC, you can get the best updates with lots of kits and patches to add-on. (Y)

Wow that screen is insane.

I preordered PES6 from cd-wow.com a while ago, as it's one of the few places that ships to the U.S. It got cancelled somehow because it didn't have fields for City, State, Country on my credit card info. I tried it again last night with a different method and I'm waiting to see if it gets cancelled. Should come by November 6th if it works out.

Can't wait!

Yea, I played it for the first time today and the foul situation is a million times better. You can actually nudge them off and not hear a whistle....I was so happy I let out a mini shreak. Theres also great improvement in the presentation and menus. They did a good job and I think any real fan will greatly appreciate the little adjustments they made throughout the game. I know I do, I cant wait til I can leave work to go play.

The asian version has been out for a long time but the version for us "others" just released recently.

Are you playing on PC? Glad to hear I won't be getting fouled three times in a span of ten seconds like WE9/PES5.

I'm wondering if you can force AA and AF for PES6 on PC, which is something I very much desired for last year's edition. Maybe I'll check over on PESFan.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 2:15 pm

Whats AA and AF? Forgive my ignorance.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 3:18 pm

Argh - I keep forgetting that most people on these forums aren't obsessed with obscure graphical settings like me. I speak of anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering, which I set to 4x and 16x respectively when playing WE9, but only the anisotropic filtering has an effect.

Just wondering if Konami for some reason decided to make PES6 look like an actual PC game rather than a console port this year (I'm not hopeful).

Sun Oct 29, 2006 3:25 pm

damn, Aloiso is on our cover (N) ahh well, it's only a cover....

I'm keen to hear more as I'm tossing up this & FIFA 07 for my 360....I'm leaning towards PES6, but don't like that they've stripped down editing options (N)

who are those 2 on the Japanese cover?

The brains behind the game I believe.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 7:42 pm

The Asian version isn't on the PC platform... (N) Only the WE10i has it on PC, but I live in Asia and it's hard for me to get it here...
Have you guys heard about the WE9 Korean Liveware?

Sun Oct 29, 2006 7:51 pm

I played today both Fifa 07 and PES 6 for PS2, and I prefer Fifa 07 this year, mainly because PES 6 is the same game as PES 5 and PES 4... It's getting older... For the 360 FIfa is much better, no doubt about it, not only because of the graphics, but PES6 it's the same game as in Current gen, there are few noticeable differences.

Sun Oct 29, 2006 11:06 pm

but Cervantes, what about for someone who has never played PES?!? I've got 360 & have never played PES on any platform....I haven't played a FIFA game since FIFA 2001 either....

Mon Oct 30, 2006 6:46 am

I've already played this game a billion times. Ask any questions if you want.
But I would like to know what the difference between WE 10 and PES 6 is. I doubt anyone has both versions, but who knows?

I still think this game is superior to FIFA in terms of pure gameplay. It's just much more realistic.

Mon Oct 30, 2006 7:26 am

I hope PES6 is much slower than PES5 was. I like playing FIFA 07 on Slow speed, and that feels about right. Then when I go to play PES5 it feels like everyone's had a few too many Red Bulls.

Mon Oct 30, 2006 1:50 pm

I've played several games and I have to say it seemed much better than PES5. There are new animations, new types of shots.... and you can actually control the player after the opposing keeper catches one of your shots....

plus the graphics are just brilliant.

though I wish the details on the jerseys would be a little better

that guy looks like an ugly mofo

I'm still really unsure what game to get between FIFA 07 & PES6 for my 360....I need more pro's & con's....I like give & go's & the passing game, but yeah, would be good to hear more opinions....

Mon Oct 30, 2006 8:50 pm

I'm not sure about XBOX, but on PC, PES just owns any FIFA.

lpasso.sor wrote:I'm not sure about XBOX, but on PC, PES just owns any FIFA.

I'm sure it would with patching etc....

but I'm on 360 & the game will be offline, so not really any Xbox Live updates for the meantime....

Mon Oct 30, 2006 11:03 pm

Ehh, I think I read a review for Winning Eleven on XBOX360... It isn't too good, and they didn't really make use of the graphics engine of X360. Just get FIFA for 360 and a PES6 for your PC. (Y)

Mon Oct 30, 2006 11:08 pm

I won't be getting any games for PC, but yeah, might take a look at FIFA....my fiance says she's gonna get me an engagement present (especially since I gave her a damn fine ring hat I designed myself)....she said she'd get me a 360 game or a Scotland rugby union jersey....still tossing that up....probably get a 360 game & get a Scotland jersey when I'm in Scotland in a year & a half time....

I'll keep reading reviews though....

Yea there arent any real major changes but to me its still superior to FIFA regardless of whether or not it has changed much over the years. FIFA hasnt changed all that much either from my perspective, just a couple things here and there but i dont get much joy in building up plays like I do in PES so as of right now its sitting there doing nothing. The most important thing to me for PES was to remove all the fouls and they did that so I'm content.

Thats Herman Crespo from the Argentinean National Team and Inter; he's "prettier" in real life

Tue Oct 31, 2006 3:55 am

Heck, Ronaldinho's uglier than Crespo.
