If NBA LIVE used FM06's rating layout...

Fri Aug 04, 2006 4:44 pm

For all the Football Manager fans at NLSC who are too familiar with FM's rating system, let's see what NBA Players would look like using FM's system. I actually think FM's system is quite good and would love to see it implented in an NBA video game. It's interesting how every single little rating effects how that player plays in the game in some way. (Y)

I was thinking about this last night before i went to bed. And now i'm really interested to see how they compare after all the scenarios i thought of (i always get my ideas before sleep for some reason). So let's see...

We'll leave out 'technical attributes', since it doesn't apply to NBA players, as they're not soccer players, haha. And i'll chuck in 'size/height' to physical attributes since it's such an important factor in basetkball (though should i do height by position? Or height by all standards? I'll go all standards for now, since it would look silly for Jason Kidd to have an 18 for height wth Bryant having a 13.). Also i put an * next to ratings i'm not so sure about. As for rating standards, if you're not familiar with FM: 16-20 is high (though there is quite a difference between 16 and 20), 11-15 is decent (11, 12 and 13 is more decent. 15 is good), 6-10 is below average, and 1-5 is low. You pretty much could've been your own judge by the colours, but anyway. Alrightie...

^ And that's why JR Smith hasn't been able to make an impact in the NBA despite his talent. Maybe if he'd gone to college he would have developed in those areas.

It gives me more of an appriciation for the stars of the NBA. As their success is because of more than just skills and athleticsm. I'd never really thought so much about the mental side of it.

Therefore i think this rating system would be beneficial to any sports game, particularly NBA, as mental ability seperates the good players from the superstars.

Feel free to add more or repost mine! I'll probably add more as i think of more interesting players.

I like the idea. It's something completely new in live, but it's cool. But it lacks shooting and ballhandling skills and so on....

I'm sorry if I missed it, but what are those * saying?

Sat Aug 05, 2006 12:35 pm

Also i put an * next to ratings i'm not so sure about

You know, Jordan with a 16 in influence and aggression proves that Nick is not so sure about some ratings :P
Great idea, btw (Y)

Sat Aug 05, 2006 7:28 pm

Oh my gosh if future version of Nba Live adopt some of these mental attributes if would turn my head upside down specially
Agression: high score (Shaq in his prime) low score (Drew Gooden)
Bravery: hs (Dennis Rodman) ls (Kwame Brown)
Composure: hs (M Jordan, Kobe)
Creativity: this will go in handy on how many move and how elusive a player is on the air or creating a shot for himself or a teammate.
Influence: hs (shaq)
Off the ball: hs (richard hamilton)
Teamwork: hs (lebron james)

This is kinda like how the ratings were in NBA Jam and NBA Hangtime isn't it?

Sun Aug 06, 2006 7:20 am

@Nick

You forgot to put the * besides Lebron's Teamwork (no way thats 19).

It would be good if they adopted FMs rating system. I remember having a conversation with Jae the other day about how much better Pro Evoltion Soccer would be if it were as deep as FM (Or was it if EA teamed up with SI to make a football game...not sure :| ).

I didn't put a * next to it because i'm pretty sure 19 is a good score for LeBron's teamwork.

What would you put?
