Our teacher told about this today in Business class

This is BS, I can't believe the US approved capital punishment to a minor, that is just not ethical. (N)

For some reason i sort of agree , a crime is a crime , if you are 13 and kill 100 people and if you are 28 and kill 10 people , it doesnt matter , u still kill 100 people. I agree but it should only be used in extreme circumstances , not for a stupid crime.

Thu Mar 03, 2005 12:11 pm

Well okay, but I really doubt a 13 year old will kill 100 people. I still don't think it's very fair to minors. I'd revert back to the saying, "Well, they don't know better." ESPECIALLY with all the information that's floating around these days, our children are no longer innocent. They are exposed to a lot more, certainly more than I was. They simply do not have the maturity to fully be conscience of what they are doing. OR, maybe redefine the age of a minor. 16 and under?

Thu Mar 03, 2005 12:20 pm

Still murder is murder , I think kids now are smarter then before , they may be exposed to whats wrong but they should know that murder is wrong , a sane person that is old enough to think , should be able to know that they did something wrong , age isnt anything but a number , a minor should still be smart enough to know if something is wrong or right , they are taugth that in pree school.

No way, I think you're oversimplifying things way too much. Take that case a few years ago, about a kid who shot his whole family because of a Power Ranger episode he saw on TV. He was simply imitating his favourite TV characters (who are portrayed as not doing anything wrong) and took his father's gun and fired. Do you think a sane kid would shoot his own family and siblings? This kid had no mental problems whatsoever. He just did not have the maturity to fully grasp the consequences of his actions.

Once again, kids are exposed to a lot more things in this age, influencing them to do things that they might not have done before. I strongly believe that there is a certain age where you are not in touch with reality simply because you do not have the required knowledge.

Thu Mar 03, 2005 12:33 pm

Broken Wings you hold a pretty good debate but my mind doesn't change , i still believe a minor is smart enough to know that killing is wrong . that power rangers story i never heard of , but that kid was probably too young too know what common sense is , but up to a certain age kids dont know what common sense is . I do believe minors also deserve punishment for murder , maybe even the death penalty.

RIDICULOUS!

the death penalty is one of the most flawed systems ever created. it is extremley primitive and racist. the US is the only technilogically advanced country to still use it. it is an utter disappointment.

and giving it to kids is COMPLETLY ridiculous.

I guess I am the only one here who actually agress with it because violence is growing now-a-days especially with minors

i think violence is a problem yes.

but i have HUGE moral issues with the death penalty.

Thu Mar 03, 2005 12:56 pm

yes the death penalty may sometimes be racial but on a more serious note , do you expect that 'white america' will ever accept non-white people to be one of them (no offense please)

Thu Mar 03, 2005 12:59 pm

I personally believe that if the death penalty is going to be used, it should be reserved for the most violent criminals who are basically undisputably guilty. For example, the last man to be executed in Australia may not have even been guilty; there is still debate over that.

I think minors shouldn't be eligible for such harsh punishments, but at the same time minors who are clearly dangerous to others shouldn't be treated lightly just because of their age.

Thu Mar 03, 2005 1:01 pm

Yes i agree wit that andrew , only harsh crimes should be punished , no matter what the age.

Thu Mar 03, 2005 1:05 pm

Minors are young, and young minds aren't exactly the wisest of minds. These kids need help, not an early death.

Thu Mar 03, 2005 1:14 pm

yeh i agree with andrew, also i think the minors should go through harsh psychological testing before the death penalty is decided on

yeh i agree but if they are quite obviously dangerous and it is unlikely they can be rehabilitated its a safer option

yep i do have a girl and we plan on getting marriedby the end of the year or next year after i got the house into a pretty livaeble shape first. (Y)

got nothing to add. it pretty sums everything up (Y) (Y) (Y)

But above all, I think it has to be pretty clear that the person is guilty. Throughout history, a lot of innocent people have been sentenced to death and some of them have later been cleared of all charges, though a lot of good that does once their life has been taken away.

absolutly, but i think life in jail should always be a better option then the death penalty.

no person does any bad to the world living their life in prison.

only to those living in the prison world.........like rumbles and gang ups inside prison (N) but hey i didn't say they should be isolated in some chamber alone. rumbles in prison is pretty much what you get for getting your ass in there in the first place  .
