Reducing the number of posts/topics per page

Sat Jul 17, 2004 3:09 pm

I've been considering reducing the number of posts per page to 25, and the number of topics per page to 50. Does anyone have any objections or suggestions for a different number of posts and topics per page?

The reason I've included the third poll option is because I'm not sure if this is an issue that forum members are really interested in being involved in. I do know that people would like to be more involved in forum decisions, which is why I'm making this thread to get some opinions on the proposed change.

Thanks. (Y)

DON'T REDUCE If anything I want more. I hate forums that have the limit set to something low like 15 and I'm constantly having to click next page. Keep it the same please.

I say reduce the number of topics but dont reduce the number of posts... also I think it'd be good to un-sticky some of the sticky threads that dont get used

Some sort of reduce would hlelp.

I don't mind though:)

Agreed with the un-stickying of some threads.

The topics per page can be reduced, some of them are really not read and just linger at the bottom of the page.

Post should stay the same. It's confusing if you want to see what someone wrote and you have to browse through pages, nah...posts are just fine.

Cocobee's dynasty would be too many pages then, no, don't touch the posts please. :)

Reducing threads/page would be good. Reducing posts/page would be bad.

I personally, would like it if the post cout per page was dropped to 30-35... but since not everyone's interested in the idea, how about a plugin of some sort that would let each user specify the number of posts per page and topics per page by just editing their profile?
I think this feature comes bundled with the IPB forum template... donno about phpBB though, you may have to download it from somewhere.

Yeah. If you reduce posts per page, then threads like Steve's would be like 30 pages long and if you want to go back and look for a shoe, it would take you a long time to find it.

I'm with Colin... i hate browsing sites with 15 or so post per page... it's so tedious and annoying having to click next page etc.
keep the post per page at 50 please...

I think it's fine the way it is, but it wouldn't hurt to reduce topics per page. I can still scroll down and see my older dynasties that I quit a long time ago.

I hear what you're saying about the number of posts per page. I was only considering lowering it to reduce loading times, I agree that 50 posts per page makes replying to a large thread much easier.

Ultimately I'll make the change based on the majority vote, but judging by the votes so far I'd say I'll be dropping the number of topics displayed, though I'll leave the posts per page at 50.

Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming. (Y)

The change is official - the forum will now display 50 topics per page, but the topics themselves will still display 50 posts per page. This has been done to reduce loading times and keep the first page of topics relatively fresh in the most active forums.

Incorrect Piks: :scold:

Andrew never said what the original topics per page were, he said he'd reduce it to 50. Which he did.

Hotshot asked how much it was (before being reduced to 50 topics on a page.)

I'm guessing it was 75 orso?

It was originally at 100 topics per page. I decided to reduce that by half to increase loading times. I was also considering reducing the posts per page to 25 for the same reason but has a few people have already pointed out, that would also get in the way of long discussions.
