Buying a new computer+ personal rant

Thu Mar 18, 2004 10:19 pm

Finally i'm getting a new computer. The one i have now 6yrs old and hella slow. i get $2000, which should get me a really kick ass comp. For $2000 my sis got a computer that was top of the line, they even had enough for a graphix card that has a remot control to it  I need a new comp cos of Uni. I need all the latest programs n shit. I wanna also play NBA Live 2004 on PC. Last time i played Live on my PC was 2000, which crashed. My sis has 2003 at home, but i think 2003 is a pile of shit so i stick to NBA Live 2002 on PS1 cos i love the gameplay. But, it'll be cool to have franchise mode and stuff. Is 2004 good. What's so good about it?

I'm also gonna get a new stereo system. All the good ones now have in built DVD players, but i don't have a TV in my room (believe it or not) so i'll just get one w/o a DVD player. Those cost bout $500-$1000. I got $800 now for that. I got a cheap ass system now, with only one CD changer. I need at least 3, hopefully 5 CD changer. I'm sick of changing discs all the time, especially since a lot of CD's today are absolute shit. Most of them have 2,3 good songs and the rest are fillers. That's why i like Scarface CD Balls & My Word. He's all lyrical which is what i like, no fillers, just straight out real rap......no clubs, no .44's. Refreshing really. I'm gonna get The Fix, which was nominated for Album Of The Year by The Source. I like that Nappy Roots CD, Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz. They make more references to food than Sally Struthers, but once again they keep guns out of their CD's, good stuff

well that was my personal rant, im just bored

depending on wat monitor u get mate,
u can get a top of the line up for under 1000Aussie dollars

I suggest you buy all the parts yourself and get some1 with some comp skills to connect it all up for u. since u'll save a shitload of money in labour.

a good cpu will cost you about 200ish, unless u wanna go with teh top of the top which would cost u 400 even for a 64bit cpu which just came out.

a motherboard would cost you about 200 maybe abit more or less, depending on how serious u wanna get.

then theres the rest
ddr about $110 for 512mb
dvd burner = $200 or cdr-rw= $80
best bang for your buck gfx card Ati Radeon 9600xt extreme = $259 atm
a kick ass case with all the purdy lights and stuff = $110 w/o bling bling= $70
LCD Monitor= 300-700 (u could get it hot or legit  )

if u can salvage some parts from your old comp like the harddrive, cd rom drive. monitor.. u'll save a shitload..

I recommend eBay. My dad just bought mine, well its just a chip and motherboard, but he payed like $70 for it. The chip is 1.4 ghz but it doesn't come with memory. He's gonna custom build it too. I don't get to have a DVD drive, though, unless he gives me the extra one that he has.

He also has a program that lets me play PS2 games on PC> (Y)

good luck with your new PC and Pistons, stack.

There are. One is Bleem which was used with Dreamcast at first. It let you play PS games on DC. He has that and something else. It hasn't been unpacked yet. I don't remember the name.

You should do, but some ppl are assholes and will try and rip you off! What you should do is build it yourself, that way you will get exactly what you want. If you cant build your own machine i recommend you check ALIENWARE or DEMONITE, they have some really nice systems and you will get a really good high end spec!

PS-Make sure u go 64Bit!

1.4ghz, you got no chance of emulating a PS2. I Got a P4 2.8, granted i have no tried any ps2 emu's, but i have tried an XBOX one on my machine, i got about 3fps and a great big mess. You wont see a really good 128bit emu for about 5 years i reckon.

my sisters husband got their computer built, he knows a lot about computers so he'll help out. We gonna use the same company, don't know what they are called, but in 7 days i'll deffinately have it :) also gonna get Live2004

i got a stereo system for just $443. I saw the same model with inbuilt DVD player for $1100. But i'll buy a DVD player seperately. I got excess cash now, time to go buy some chocolate. It's a Sony buy the way

Yeah. I mentioned that to my dad when he first told me. I asked if I would need a DVD rom since PS2 games are in DVD format and he said he didnt think so. Oh well, I'll just have to find out.

I think it sucks to have DVD in the PC. Who wants to see a good movie on a shitty pc screen, not me anyway, that's way I got a real dvdplayer.

About emulators, I got 6 differnt emulators.

Gameboy, 4bit
Ninteno, 8bit
Super Nintendo, 16bit
Sega Megadrive, 16bit (does anyone remeber this console?)
Gameboy Advance, 32bit
Nintendo 64, 64bit

Well...if you have a computer like the last one I had...you wont mind watching a movie on it.

17 Inch screen, Logitech 5.1's...it was a movie experience.

I'm saving up to build me a new pc. We have pc dumps out here, no, not real dumps...just non brand computer parts...but the performance is great, just not brand named...(Y)

I too need a new computer, this one is so messed up from everything (mostly my stupid ass sister) that it ends up crashing if there are too many internet windows up (pop-ups used to kill that, thatnk god for pop-up blockers.) It took me 2 hours to successfully run Norton Anti-Virus today to get rid of a virus. When i play a game of NBA Live the lag in everything in incredible. It takes 1 minute 45 seconds to load a game (I timed it), when you're selecting jersey's it takes 5 seconds to load the next one. I run it on 1024 by 768, low detail for everything except players (medium) and environment (high, to see the arenas), I think there's one more thing but I forget. My graphics card is a RIVA TNT 2. This computer is 5 years old, but apparently I spend too mcuh time on the computer so my mom doesn't want to get me a new one. *pops a vein* [/rant off]
