Hello, another one of these threads, sorry but I don't know where else to go for help.
I've tried as many things as a guy with limited experience with computers can, and still can't figure out the problem with my PC.
I purchased a Corsair Force 3 90GB SDD, as well as a PNY GTX 560 ti right around the same time, and have had freezing problems randomly ever since (or so I think). These occur mostly when playing video games, or playing videos. I've gone 4 days of heavy BF3 gaming without a freeze, and then I've had days where it froze 4 times while trying to finish watching Transformers Dark of Moon.
The freezes themselves happen unexpectedly, no slow down or anything, and the audio repeats itself with very small intervals (<1second).
I upgraded my PSU hoping that was the problem. It wasn't. I've checked the GPU, CPU, MB, temperatures immediately following a freeze, and nothing was above 46 degrees Celsius.
I have no idea how to OC, but the guy I bought the CPU/MB/ram from previously had OCed it, and there has been a "CPU fan error" when turning the PC on every since I bought the thing. But previously didn't cause problems prior to upgrading the SDD, GPU, PSU, or so I believe.
I tried looking in event viewer but am not sure what to look for, I've tried multiple clean installs of Windows on the SDD, updated GPU drivers, tried to upgrade SDD firmware, but alas my MB doesn't support AHCI, and therefore the SDD is in IDE mode, and can't update the firmware, regardless I have no idea if this is the cause.
Here's my setup:
Windows 7 64bit
Asus P5k - bought used - doesn't support AHCI
Intel Q6600 - bought used
8Gb ram - bought used
PNY GTX 560 ti
Corsair Force 3 90GB SDD - used almost solely for OS - setup in IDE Mode
750GB HDD - media, games
Corsair AX 850 PSU
Basically I don't even know where to start, I don't know how to properly check the SDD, or check my memory timing etc. I tried running Memtest once, but couldn't find the results, will have to try again.
I'm borderline considering purchasing a brand new MB CPU Ram, but would be devastated if the problem persisted, much like how I was after purchasing the new PSU, which prior to, thought was the problem for the freezing.
Please any help is appreciated, even just pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. If any other information is required ask away. If this gets fixed for good I'd consider giving out a free game or something.
