New Downloads section; Upload your files!

New Downloads section; Upload your files!

Postby Andrew on Thu Aug 11, 2011 12:06 pm

We have officially launched our new Downloads section, which is completely integrated with the NLSC Forum. The move has allowed us to get rid of our old submission form, as anyone with a Forum account can upload and submit files for inclusion in the database, pending approval. It has also allowed us to weed out the many broken links that were present in our old database. As time goes by, we will be exploring ways to allow frequent contributors to immediately approve their own files, so stay tuned for more info on that.

This is the first of several improvements to the NLSC that we plan on rolling out in the very near future. For more information on the new Downloads section, please read on.

A few notes on the new Downloads section

  • To upload a file to the database, simply browse to the appropriate category for your submission and click Upload a file. You will then be taken to a form where you can fill out the details of your submission and select a file to upload from your hard drive.

  • Uploaded files cannot exceed 100 MB. If your submission is larger than 100 MB or you would otherwise prefer to host the file on your own webspace, you can enter an external download link. If you would like to arrange for us to host a larger file for you, please contact me via PM or at andrew@nba-live.com and we'll take it from there.

  • Uploaded screenshots cannot exceed a size of 2000 pixels x 2000 pixels and 500 kB. Please re-size your previews accordingly if you want to upload them to the site, otherwise you can enter an external preview link if you are hosting the preview image elsewhere.

  • Submissions must follow our usual content guidelines: no pirated software, cracks, adult material etc. No viruses or malware either. Anything like that will be deleted and the user responsible dealt with accordingly.

  • If you come across any broken links, please feel free to use the Report broken download function on the download page to let us know and we'll do what we can. If you have any issues with the patch itself however, please contact the listed author.

  • As an anti-spam measure, you'll need to type in the answer to a question when downloading files. Likewise, newly registered users (anyone with less than five posts) will not be able to upload any files. Once you hit five posts, you'll automatically leave the newly registered users group and have upload access in the Downloads section.

That just about does it. If you have any further questions or issues, just let me know. I hope everyone enjoys the new Downloads section whether you're just downloading or contributing your own work. More new stuff is on the way. :)

A couple of further anti-spam measures have been put in place, so I've updated the list of notes with the relative info. Any further questions about that or anything else about the new Downloads section, just let me know. :)

You're welcome, we hope it'll greatly help out the patching community. We wanted to get all the files over from the old database before opening up the upload feature, but it's finally ready to go. :)

Read that again carefully: it's the file size that is unavailable, not the files themselves. While we re-uploaded a fair amount of files when we transferred the database over, a lot of the time we linked to the existing uploaded file which does not automatically calculate the file size. As such, any files that have external download links have a file size of "Not Available" and their file size is listed in the extra information.

All files can be downloaded, there are no broken links at this time as they all have been weeded out. If you're having trouble, it's a browser/security setting issue.

Additionally, you can enter an external link (Mediafire or whatever) for files over 10 MB to get them in the database in the meantime and I can set up a mirror/hosting following that.

With our move to a new, faster server, the upload limit has been increased to 100 MB. That should cater to pretty much everyone's needs; anything bigger than that, contact us and we'll see what we can arrange for you.

Will NBA 2K12 on Xbox 360 be able to be modded like the PC is. I saw this on a thread and I knew Andrew would be able to answer the question. Some of the players faces on NBA 2K12 were a total miss! Thanks for all the hard work you guys put in.

we can't do texture updates, but roster stuff will probably be editable.
Opinions are my own.

Off-topic there, but to answer your question it depends on which roster you're talking about. That's a question you're better off asking the author of a roster directly or in their appropriate release thread.

No need for it. As with any other original files, they can be copied from the disc/re-downloaded from Steam.

that's why you should always back up for original files if you are modding or using patches.

Excellent addition, I often thought in previous years how cool it would be if there were a consolidated downloads area.
Great work! :applaud:

I've attempted to download and install the Salary Cap fix in the trade screen. I'm a bit naive, but I'd like to install this fix and can't seem to determine how to do it. If someone could please offer some direction it would be greatly appreciated .

This thread isn't the place to ask about that; for future reference, it's better to create a new thread in the appropriate game section or contact the author directly.

Please don't post off-topic like this. This thread is not for patch requests or asking questions about any specific updates. Please post any questions like that in the respective section for the game you're asking about.
