Really close to buying a PS3. Recommendations?

Postby kibaxx7 on Sun Mar 20, 2011 2:45 am

I was gonna post on the "Games you're playing right now" thread but I thought it didn't reply to that title.

So, I'm really close to buying me and my brother a brand new PS3. You may know that over here in Argentina the games demand waaaay more money, so I'm appealing on you guys, to recommend me some games. The aim is on PS3 exclusive games or in console exclusive games, such as:

- Gran Turismo 5
- Red Dead Redemption
- L.A. Noire
- Vanquish
- God of War III
- Killzone series
- Metal Gear Solid series
- Uncharted series

Also my plan is buy one game each month (hey, gotta save money) so tell me what would the first game you'd buy, to keep you entertained the first month. I'd say Red Dead Redemption.

if you're into cars or racing at all, i would recommend GT5. my personal recommendation would be Yakuza 3 by SEGA (since it's a bit older and should be cheaper). if you like it, you can buy #4 which came out this week. it's a ps3 exclusive as well

if you can get it online, Little Big Planet 2 can keep you entertained for years if you dont mind looking for a good levels

IF, you can get it cheap, I'd recommend trying MAG, 256 people in 1 game, yea

Heavy Rain is worth a playthrough sometime down the line too.
Opinions are my own.

Yes, my brother, my father and I are all into racing games. Gran Turismo 5 should be a buy. Yakuza is down on my list too, because there's a lot of games to try first, IMO...

We didn't get very fond of LBP, but I guess we could give it a try. Heavy Rain is one my brother's favs, so that will be a buy for sure, sooner or later.

Keep 'em comin' :D

I got a PS3 too. Would've kept with 360 had I known that College Hoops 2k series would be canned a year or so after I got it (N)

360 used and "old" new games are cheap as chips these days.

That being said, if you're getting a PS3 then get Uncharted first (Y)

PS3 is the best system because unlike 360's, they aren't all lemons. The exclusives are better, online is free, the controller is better (imo). Of those games listed, I'd go with GT5.

Uncharted 2 is fun, but while the graphics and spectacle are absolutely mindblowing in parts, the story is garbage and the gameplay isn't that fun. God of War III is a blast but it took two days for me to get to the final boss (and quit, because it was fucking stupid). GT5 does not make a good first impression, but it's extremely deep, is getting better all the time with patches and will take forever to beat. I'm not a hardcore gamer but I'd say I play video games 3-4 times a week, and I'm still only at Level 25 (in A-Spec)

We are kind of getting bored, always playing the same games on PC

I'm not sure if that "used" system is over here in Argentina. There's no GameStop to exchange used games :P A couple of friends also told me of Uncharted. I guess it's a buy...

Uncharted and GT5 will be a buy down the road, GOW 3 I guess I'll have to play it very, very slow.

Any more? I thought of Bayonetta, Mortal Kombat 9, DJ Hero 2, FIFA 11... maybe Resistance? And no doubt I'll get at least one of Ratchet & Clank.

GTA 4 if you haven't played it yet, Fight Night Champion if your a fan of fighting games. If you want a PlayStation store game Angry birds is good if you don't have it already, or Fat princess.

GTA 4 -- got in on PC, so it's a no. Fight Night Champion, I saw some videos on YouTube and I liked it, might give it a try. PlayStation store games, first I gotta see how to get online.

So the PS3 I'm buying has a special price that also gives you Metal Gear Solid 4, plus 12 games that you can choose. This are my brother & mine:

- Demon's Souls (94 on IGN, 89/100 on Metacritic)
- FIFA 11
- God of War III
- Gran Turismo 5
- Heavy Rain
- Infamous
- Killzone 3
- Marvel vs. Capcom 3
- Red Dead Redemption
- Uncharted 1
- Uncharted 2
- Vanquish

yeah that probably set him back over $600 USD. i mean, 12 games is already $720 at 60 bucks a pop

unless he got the five-fingered discount :shifty:

• The PS3 alone is $2500 -- around u$s 625.
• MGS4 is $300 -- u$s 75
• Some games are more around $250, and some are less than $400, depends on how new the game is or if its a sure sell (FIFA 11 or PES2011 sell like hot bread over here).

The final package (PS3 + MGS4 + 12 games) price is $6000, around u$s 1500, more or less, they give you three games for free. You can see how the currency over here is just insane.

Most of those games are greatest hits or have been out for a while though.

By comparison in the U.S. you could pay on Amazon:
PS3 with Killzone 3 bundle: $300
MGS4: $20
Demon's Souls: $20
Uncharted 1: $21
Uncharted 2: $28
FIFA 11: $40
God of War III: $28
GT5: $54
Heavy Rain: $29
Infamous: $28
Marvel vs. Capcom 3: $56
Vanquish: $29
Red Dead Redemption: $30

Total: $683

So you could get all of it for the same price as PS3+MGS4.

benji just said it: "by comparison in the U.S." The prices over here are hell. Every freakin' game is at least THRICE the price you pay in the United States. It's not that I'm getting ripped off, it's that I can't go the U.S. to buy them. :shake:

That's what internet is for, try Amazon/Ebay or anything like that. Haven't bought a Xbox game from Estonian shop other than the games that came along with the console. Only concern would be warranty and dealing with it.

The best part is that Sony, Nintendo and the other companies have long stated that they overcharge in South America and elsewhere (Eastern Europe is a good example, Southeast Asia as well) because of "piracy" concerns.

Who is going to spend $100+ U.S. on one game, when they can probably go to a shop or vendor, or hell, sometimes the same exact shop, and buy burned copies for $1-10 a pop.

You'd think you would want to capture an increasing share of the growing markets and newfound wealth in these places, but that's why you don't run a big corporation.

Well just received my brand new PS3 at home and you can imagine my face:

phpBB [video]

Decided to go safe (I didn't really trust in that PS3 + 12 games offer -- plus, I had to use some of that saved money for something else) so I bought MGS4 plus a Ratchet & Clank game, until I can get more green paper to buy some other games.
