A serious topic.

Other video games, TV shows, movies, general chit-chat...this is an all-purpose off-topic board where you can talk about anything that doesn't have its own dedicated section.

Do you feel that it's true to say that?

A serious topic.

Postby Jackal on Tue Jun 30, 2009 12:30 pm

So here we go, after discussing matters such as the existance of God, the death of Michael Jackson, the turmoil in Iran, the Australian Government and other very important issues, I would like to raise another matter of concern that seems to be diminishing here in the forums.

Before there was a sense of importance given to this topic & we enjoyed countless discussions regarding it. Sometimes the words got heated, but at the end of the day we found a way to find middle ground and respect eachothers' opinions regarding the matter. At times I couldn't understand why Shadowgrin felt that way, but it felt good hearing his arguments based on the subject. Unlike nowdays, when there is basically no point being conveyed.

Then there is the subject of how to discuss such a topic that seems to pique a lot of people's interests but aren't willing to talk about it. Atleast not anymore. A couple of years ago we were a lot more open and accepting to this and I'm wondering why it's changed?

What are you guys' take on it? Should we try and encourage people to discuss it and tell others about it? Or do you guys feel that it's better to just leave the subject in the past and not mention it anymore?

Give me your thoughts on the matter and why you chose that way of thinking/approach to the situation. I'm eager to hear some good arguments supporting whatever viewpoint you may have.

Let me stress on the fact that your opinion cannot be wrong, we are all friends here and are accepting to you & your beliefs. This is a safe place for you to voice your opinions and concerns...so let 'er rip fellows.

Oh, if you have a chance do answer the question in the poll. Thanks!

Jackal actually trying to have a serious topic and not shit on one, huh.

I agree with you, places like OperationSports piss me off since they disallow any discussion of politics or religion and they are just missing out on the fun.

While we have this fun little rumble pit every once in a while that currently has a can of gasoline and shadowgrin running around with matches.

I think any topic should be allowed to be discussed as long as it doesn't boil down to serious personal attacks. Yes I am guilty of that, but just think if I did what I initially wanted to and killed the GOD thread before anyone replied. We would have missed a few classic, fun, interesting threads.
Opinions are my own.

Some topics are just never a good idea, but in general I agree. We're an NBA Live site but the off-topic section is here to be used, so as long as people can follow the rules and are willing to discuss a wide range of topics beyond a basketball video game then a wide range of topics shall be allowed and most welcome.

Im confused about this thread...

is it just commenting on how there are some serious topics in general talk, that could get nasty?

Pretty much agree with everyone, General Talk and some NBA Talk topics are pretty much why I visit this site.

My only question is, will it shock or freeze?

Well if they are immature, there is a door over there. And we could always throw them through it.

I'm not sure if serious discussions are diminishing. The current religion thread did go to 13 pages, and it could keep on going if the other side is willing to respond to the point where we feel the need to reply.

Or take them to the 14th floor of the NLSC building and show them the window.

I'm so tempted to add another "flash" but it goes against forum policies...

So here's my other contribution:

I thought the NLSC is an operation that runs in Andrew's basement, which also houses his monkey sex slaves.

I'm not the one playing around with gasoline though.

Just to clarify, I wasn't talking about serious topics...

I did have showerfun in mind, but then my mind wandered off to what should be the actual topic of this thread...

The size of my amazing c0x0r! We used to talk about it so much before...I haven't rocked out with my cock out in AGES over here.
