Applications/Programs you might recommend

I havent seen a thread like this around here. So here you can post programs you recommend to other users here. Only thing is that you should post the OS for that app.

I´ll start:
My very favorite program: Launchy(for windows) . It pretty kills every program for quicklaunching anything. Its something like spotlight on mac.

Once Launchy has been started, it hides in the background. You bring it forward by holding the alt key and tapping the space key. You then type in a few keys of the program you are searching for and hit enter once it has been found. You can also make Launchy dissappear again by hitting escape or alt+space.

Startkiller (XP): It removes the start button which frees up some space. You still can enter with the windows button.

Transmission (OS X/Linux) - Best torrent client on any platform.

VideoDrive (OS X) - Import DivX files to iTunes/Front Row.

Skype (OS X/Windoze/Linux?) - If you don't know what you can do with this app chances are you're an idiot.

Hotspot Shield (OS X/Windoze) - Especially useful for laptops. Protects your computer on public networks. It has other uses too (Access Hulu from outside the US.)

Photomatix Pro (OS X/Windoze) - Indispensable to create HDR photographs.

iWork (OS X) - For those of you who don't have it, get it. Pages is awesome.

CoverSutra (OS X) - Search iTunes for albums, artists or songs from your menu bar.

FFView (OS X) - Comic reader. Windoze equivalent: CDisplay.

Yes, AVG is nice. I had McAfee before, but got some system slowdowns. With AVG, I have never had them. It being free is a huge plus.
Trillian. The all-in-one instant messaging program. Supports Yahoo, MSN, AIM, ICQ, etc.
ZoomPlayer, VLC player, and MPC player. Between those three and ffdshow, all media files can be played.
Firefox with Adblock plus and ScriptBlocker.

I used to run an Ad Aware scan every week to get rid of tracking cookies and spyware and what not. While browsing around, I stumbled upon an Internet Security pack. It contained Sygate Personal Firewall, Ad-Aware, AVG, RegProt, and Spyware Guard. Ever since I got it, the amount of critical objects that Ad-Aware finds has been dramatically decreased. I haven't did a scan in probably 6 months and I found only 31 tracking cookies just now. I think it is due to SpyWareGuard. RegProt runs in the background and gives you a popup message whenever something tries to write or modify the registry with the allow or deny options.

I think Kaspersky is better then AVG..so i recommend it.
GOM player - better than VLC/WMP/Winamp for watching movies, it hase more codex, and if it isnt installed it will ask you to download it and then it works..its just great.
iTunes - for listening to music (WMP-no words on that/ Winamp - just crashas often)
Everest - PC diognostic tool
Adobe Photoshop - you know
ACDSee Pro 2.5 - viewing pics
CCleaner (a.k.a Crap Cleaner..) - just removes shit from your PC and cleans up the registry)
Diskeeper - Defrag. tool (its good, fast)
Fraps - you know
Microsoft math 3.0 - helps with math
Mozilla Firefox- you know
Nero 8 - for writing a disc
Sony Vegas 8.0 - Making movies

Spybot, SpywareBlaster. (Ad Aware is dead to me after adding that permanent service.)
Comical (Better than CDisplay because of its layout options.)
PeerGuardian.
Paint.NET.
Media Player Classic. (You always need VLC for some of those tough files.)
Foxit Reader. (Although Adobe Reader doesn't hate JSTOR as much.)
Opera.
Pidgin. (Because Trillian sucks, and authoritarian coders who refuse to listen to requests are funny.)
Filezilla. (Because some of us have to FTP.)
7-Zip. (Because other compression/extracter programs have weak kung fu.)
CDBurnerXP, DVD Shrink, and ImgBurn amirite?
I don't have an anti-virus, had Avast on last PC. Haven't found a virus in like a decade, so I've lapsed getting anything...

Thanks but I don't like cluttered user interfaces and pseudo light-weight clients, I prefer the real thing. Not to mention it's only available for an operative system I refuse to browse the internet on (or do anything for that matter, other than playing videogames.)

I don't want a torrent client that uses an enormous amount of memory every time I have my firewall running, that freezes whenever I have Avast open, not to mention it freezes randomly on my Airport Extreme or works inefficiently (3.4 kb/s max.) whenever I (try to) download from private trackers (which is every time I open my bit torrent client) or fails to move files to the trash.

You may not have encountered these issues but I have, and that's enough for me. So yeah, thanks but no thanks.

What's the last version you used? 0.8?

I've never seen it using more than 16MB with the client window open (minimized less), I'm always "fast-tracked" on private trackers, the delete works perfectly and it's never crashed on me.

The Windows portion of the NLSC should definitely be using it.
