The Top Ten Athletes In Videogame History

Article @ IGN Sports

I'd add Shaq in NBA Live 2002 as an honourable mention. He onced torched me for 72 points, then they added the Take Charge button in NBA Live 2003 and holding him to 10 points or less by getting him into foul trouble became a whole lot easier.

Steve Smith of the Atlanta Hawks, I think in Live '98 (might have been '99 but pretty sure was '98)....he was a beast....unstoppable

Barkley's ratings are ridiculous with his game. His 2-pointer is higher than his three-pointer. His steal rating is even higher than the 2-pointer.

I do agree with the number one in that list. Defeating his game-self is a pain in the arse. It's do-able but damn hard, one mistake and your down.

It's not a sports game but in a similar vein, in the various incarnations of Mortal Kombat 3, Jade is lethal in the hands of the AI. I tip my hat to anyone who can beat her without using any continues in tournament mode on standard difficulty or higher.

I'd love to add Randy Moss from the early Dreamcast NFL2k series. Jesus the man was unstoppable. Maddens infamous for being hail mary happy but good god. All you needed was the vikings and there was nothing the poor computer AI or your poor friend could do. It was domination from start to finish. I once had a friend i beat at madden 64 wit hte vikings challenge me to a game of nfl2k...i proceed to whup his ass with randy moss on 2k...
I also wonder why no one from NBA JAM is on this...Scottie Pippen maybe? If he gets on fire, you might as well quit.

Also what i think would be interesting in older sports games to analyze the plays that always worked. You know what i mean? the plays that no matter what d is called to combat it theres somehow that hole in the line? (NFL 2k Roll Screen Right) or somehow the bucket goes in? (NBA2k on DC was rife with those) it happens in every sports game. Hell, in World Series Baseball on Dreamcast there was a point where games were taking me hours cuz as long as i could foul off pitches i could wait till the 1 ball i could crush up high. I even hit homeruns with the pitchers or wall shots every game. Man i miss good old battles with my friends on those games...*eyeing my poor broken dreamcast*...man i wish i knew how to replace the lens on that baby

It's cheaper to buy another one off eBay.

Are you sure it's the laser? What does it do? If it overheats, the power supply pins will bend, you can open it and push the pins (carefully and with a cloth/kleenex etc. to prevent hand oil getting on them) back. I've had to do this twice in five years after some heavy gaming during the summer. (Power Stone 2 > Smash Bros. STFU HATERS. Also some serious Bomberman 2 on SNES emulator.) It would then work perfectly unless I stupidly ran it on carpet in the summer again.

And personally I'd like to pretend the first versions of each of the 2K series didn't happen.

Their list is pretty accurate, maybe some re-ordering to it. But it's borderline impossible to pick anyone that isn't Bo Jackson or Mike Tyson. Any game with theoretical flaws will allow someone to dominate. Such as Kyle Korver getting 300 points on 200 three pointers or whatever it was. (Or Steve Smith.)

JASON KAPONO SHOOTS 300 THREE POINTERS AND MAKES 240 OF THEM.

I remember Shaq being ridiculous in 02 as well, I could take the ball up with him on Superstar, cheese through the D and then slam it down on four guys. Awesome.

Bo Jackson is personally my favourite though.

Arvydas Sabonis in live '98. Over 7 foot tall and shot threes like his name was Mark Price. Scored 30 on me every damn game.

One guy I remember is Jozef Stumpel, who simply got on my nerves throughout the whole nhl series.

I couldn't really single anyone out in NBA Jam, anyone with fairly balanced ratings could be deadly once they got on fire.

I knew Jeremy Roenick would be on the list. The guy was awesome in NHL 94 too.

I'm 90% sure its the lens because it turns on fine but i have several games it wont read or stops reading in midgame. Especially on Phantasy Star Online it'll get to the loading screen and load from here to eternity. I've heard about the power supply pins but i really dont think its the problem. I've always played on a hard well ventilated surface. And power stone is still the shiznit.

listen, that list is flawed. i once scored 210 points with tom chambers in celtics vs lakers. the man was a god in that game doing his double pumps from almost the 3 point line

from who was on the list, roenick is first imo. scored 10 goals min every game with him. charles haley in madden 94 was also unstopable with his sacks, a damn machine

the best non real player ever would be bullseye bond from the david robinson game. if you shot the ball from 3 with him it was 95% going in.

Power Stone 2 (and the first one as well) is way better than any Smash Bros. game. It is far superior in terms of actual gameplay.

Only in the hands of the CPU though. Chris Whitney wasn't so deadly if controlled by the user in NBA Live 2003 but in the hands of the AI, different story altogether.
