Do you shave your beard?

Postby Andrew on Tue Jul 15, 2008 9:15 pm

(aka The Beard Appreciation Thread)

Since we've got a thread about shaving below the neck, I thought we could stand to have one about shaving about it. So, who prefers to a beard or some other form of facial hair?

Ever since I've been able to grow a beard properly, I've preferred to keep at least a goatee though I gave growing a full beard a shot last year. I can't really explain why I like the look, I guess it's partly because I feel I look too young for my age without one though with one I'm sometimes mistaken as being in my late 20s/early 30s (for those who don't know I'm 23, turning 24 in October), especially when I was growing the full beard.

:) great tendency of the "shaving" threads! i do shave my beard, but sometimes, i let it grow! actully, i feel uncomfortably when it's warm weather and i've got some facial hear - it's scratching! and also my girl doesn't like it, and i respect her opinion! i think there is no pleasure for girl when bearded guy kissing her, or doing smth else!

Beards certainly can get itchy, that's one of the reasons I tend to stick to a goatee. You certainly need to keep it trimmed if you want to look presentable and avoid people going into "got no change mode", as comedian Dave Callan puts it.

I hate shaving.

I usually also just leave a goattee, I also feel I look too young without it and I guess I just like the look. From time to time when I do get fed up, I do take it all off. That's when people go..."I didn't know you had a cleft in your chin?!"

Anyways, right now I'm at a 5 o'clock shadow just because I have to replace my blades but am in no mood to do so. Damn things are expensive as hell. What I do dislike is the "dirty" feeling I sometimes have despite being showered/clean.

ha, good timing on this thread, I just decided that I like the beard I have right now and I plan to keep it for a bit. I usually stay clean shaven (for about an hour, thanks to my Italian dad) but after the long weekend for the 4th of July I stopped shaving and kept it because my scruff was the same length as my buzz haircut.

I got through the itchy phase already, Head n Shoulders on it in the morning and sometimes a 2nd shower with it at lunch helped a lot. Everyone wants me to shave it down to a goatee or the Abe Lincoln then get rid of it completely.
Opinions are my own.

I stopped shaving with a razor years ago, and just got an electric one. I shaved wrong when I was young, and my beard goes down my neck near my adams apple. Maybe I can get some nair or something to stop it from growing because it really irritates my neck when I shave it.

I also feel the same way as most of you. I feel I look naked or too boyish without my mustache and beard. If I neglect to shave it, people start calling me Jesus.

I basically have a disconnected goatee most of the time.

I'm one of those jerks who looks too old for my age. It's cool when you're 16, and look like you can buy alcohol. But it loses its lustre after that. I'm generally facial-hairly unkempt, due to laziness, but i try to be clean shaven when i can.

I'm 24 years old but I've been told I look 30 when I'm clean shaven. So i can add a couple of years to it when I'm bearded.

Also, my girlfriend is 19 (almost 20), and when we go out, we get some strange looks.

I'm lazy as fuck when it comes to shaving. I usually only shave once every two weeks or so, but sometimes I let it grow for several months, until my wife asks me to sleep on the couch...

I usally shave twice a week, since i'm light brown hairded (like biedrins) i don't have any real stubble-field on my face, in every 3 days i get only a noticable moutstache and goatee, the rest of my face needs like one week to have a noticable beard!

I'm sporting a chinstrap right now. As Jao, I can only stay clean shaven for a day at most. I never shave my whole beard, though. It grows so fast I just don't care enough to shave it every day. I usually just shave my cheek and neck-area and leave the sideburns and goatee.

I've always wanted to grow a mustache but I can't, it just looks bad. It's weird, though, since it's the only part of my beard I can't grow properly.

I used to have a moustache + goatee combo that came along well with my long hair. Just shaved it when my thesis defense came. Now I shave the moustache + goatee combo so that I won't look intimidating to my students.

I shave off my facial hair. It grows quickly in some places, but then not at all in others. I would rather just shave it all off and be done with it.

I usually shave when I'm in the shower, so I think it is easier than having to maintain facial hair.

I don't have to shave that often. Maybe once a month. I guess that's one of the perks of being Asian, along with their innate ability to do math and eat copious amounts of rice.

I have always left facial hair on my chin. Like Andrew and Jackal said, without it, it makes me look younger, I love it so I'm sticking with it.

True. One of my closest friends, however, is my age (eighteen...) and looked like a werewolf by the time he was a high school freshmen. We used to bash him yet envy him all at the same time
