Zack and Miri Make a Porno

Postby Andrew on Tue Jul 15, 2008 12:36 am

For those who are unaware, Zack and Miri Make a Porno is Kevin Smith's next movie. It's going to be his second film set outside the View Askewniverse after Jersey Girl. It will however feature appearances by Jason "Jay" Mewes and Jeff Anderson, aka Randal Graves.

Basically, it's going to be about two lifelong platonic friends (played by Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks) in desperate need of rent money coming up with the idea of producing an amateur porn film, discovering they might have feelings for one another along the way.

I'm a fan of Kevin Smith's Askewniverse movies but I still haven't seen Jersey Girl. Zack and Miri sounds promising though, even though it won't be featuring the same characters the presence of a couple of familiar faces and the content might make it more appealing to fans of the Askewniverse, like myself.

It's currently projected to hit theatres October 31st this year. If I don't see it there, I'll definitely be checking it out on DVD.

Forget Apatow. Kevin Smith alone = gold. I've watched all of his movies and there's just nothing like them. Mallrats is my favorite but I don't expect all of his movies to be as good as that. Seth Rogen is starring in this one, though, and Elizabeth Banks is just, well, hot as fuck, so it's gonna be worth seeing.

What did you think of Jersey Girl? As I said I've never seen it but most of the people I've spoken to who have seen it felt that it was a letdown.

It's what you'd expect from the premise of the movie. It's not as brilliant or hilarious as the other Kevin Smith movies and it's, well, basically a chick flick, but it's well written and more entertaining than other movies of this genre.

once again: damned kids. Mallrats is by far tied with J&SBSB(Jay and silent bob strike back) for worst scripted, least intelligent, most crappy kevin smith movie. Dont get me wrong i like both of them but they are nothing compared to Clerks, Chasing Amy, and Dogma.

Well, if I'm allowed to defend myself, I said it was my favorite, not the best. I know it's a poorly scripted and un-intelligent movie, yet it's supposed to be. It mocks fun at the main characters (and the millions of kids like them in the US at the time) and what they do. It's pure comedy, unlike Chasing Amy and Dogma, and that's what I like about it. I agree the movies you listed (especially Clerks) are better than Mallrats, I'm just saying I liked the latter better.

I like Mallrats alot, too. I have probably watched it more often the any other Kevin Smith film. Gotta love the scene when they are on the tv show.

I like Mallrats and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back as well. They're certainly not as smart as the other Askewniverse movies but I don't find that to be a problem. They're fun, quotable movies; they are what they are.

I bought the Evening with Kevin Smith/Evening with Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder DVD double pack a couple of weeks back. Someone actually showed up dressed as Buddy Christ.

I did actually see a long time ago a Buddy Christ figurine in a shop that sells actual "religious" (Catholic) items. An employee must have pulled a fast one in making that one.
