Au Revoir Roland Garros, Welcome Wimbledon!

Postby Emiliano on Mon Jun 09, 2008 10:10 am

This year's Roland Garros was pretty exciting. Nadal took it for the 4th consecutive year beating Roger Federer for the 3rd consecutive year as well. Although Rafa's win was quite dominating (Nadal won 6-1 6-3 6-0) both players had a great tournament. Pretty disappointed with our Argentinian players since the clay surface is where we excel. Oh well...at least our up and coming young players like Schwank did a decent job!

Anyways, clay court season is officially over! Now, grass here we come. This year's Wimbledon is looking to be a really good one. Federer's dominance in Wimbledon ( 5 straight years as champion and still going...) in my opinion won't stop this year, specially with the motivation of coming so close yet again to winning Roland Garros against his long time rival! Grass courts are the quickest tennis surface so expect the hard-hitters to really flourish at Wimbledon. Hopefully Nalbandian does a good job again like he has done in the past!

Any tennis fans here? What are your thoughts about this year's Roland Garros and the upcoming Wimbledon tournament?

Grass is for cows.

It's Federer's tournament to lose, IMO.

Or big Bob Marley fans...ahemp...me...ahemp...

I expect Federer to dominate, unless he starts to make the thousands of errors he made today against Nadal...unbelievable...

I would like to know who's better, Federer playing on grass or Nadal playing on clay courts.

That is really really though to answer. Federer won the last five Wimbledon tournaments and( Nadal had) the biggest winning streaks on their respective surfaces. They are both freaks of nature  I would say Federer is more of a rounded player than Nadal since he is the best grass court player and the second best clay court player. However, Nadal is a master at clay but there are plenty of other that are better than him on grass. He is getting better at it though so Roger should be scared

I'm hoping Safin can cause Fed some troubles in the Semis if they meet... but I don't see it happening unfortunately. :(

In my opinion Ancic can cause more troubles than Marat not only because he was the last player to beat Federer at Wimbledon... i think Safin can have one of his bad days and play like shit

Heh well Marat and Roger will face off in the semis, it's gonna be a nice game :)
Still I'm expecting a good win this year again for Federer. Nadal reached a high level on grass though.

It's actually so surprising how dominating Nadal is in this tournament as well as Roger. Everybody knew Federer was gonna cruise to the final but Nadal has not only reached his third straight Wimbledon final but I believe that it is the first time he looked so comfortable and confident out there! It's gonna be a pretty exciting Sunday (Y)

That final was just so lopsided that it lost it's excitement from the get-go.

This is on grass. You never know what might happen.

You've never smoked clay, have you?

Edit - Wow, I can't believe Federer came back and won that fourth set. Nadal had momentum and was going to break Roger's serve during a Deuce and they are now in a rain delay.

And it's official. Great match.
