Floyd 'Money' Mayweather retires...

Postby BIG GREEN on Sat Jun 07, 2008 8:29 am

Sad day in boxing when one of the best in his class ever retires so young. (39-0) I guess in about 5 years when another guy comes along dominating the sport...he'll want to come back and challenge him then get the beating of his life. Boxers always do that shit when the "money" starts to dwindle.

That's surprising given a rematch with Oscar De La Hoya was meant to be in the works. I wonder if he'll make any more appearances in the WWE now that his boxing career is over.

He probably will make appearances in the WWE.

But I am shocked.

If he does I'm guessing they'll only be at Wrestlemania or one of the other Big Four WWE PPVs. They wouldn't waste a celebrity appearance like that on one of the smaller events in between.

To be honest, I wasn't familiar with him until he did the angle with the WWE.

I wasn't familiar with him until the match with Dela Hoya.

I know who is previously compared to these fools above ^ :P

I enjoyed watching boxers that are more aggressive when fighting that's why I wasn't really impressed with how he fights and didn't consider him the best despite his perfect record so I rarely took notice of his fights

That changed when I saw his fight against Dela Hoya. When I first saw the fight, my opinion is that Dela Hoya should have won that match because he was more aggressive than Mayweather.
But when I watched a replay of the same match, I was impressed with how Mayweather kept Dela Hoya at bay with the jabs and punches he threw against the Golden Boy. Mayweather's footwork and reflex to dodge the punches thrown at him was just impressive.

The same impression I had can also be said when he defeated Jae Hatton. I was rooting for Hatton, IIRC Hatton decked Mayweather once in that match, but Mayweather was just too slick for Hatton to permanently bring Mayweather down the canvass.

(If only the offense-oriented Pacquiao also has Mayweather's defensive style, damn)

Mayweather's a cocky SOB, but he deserved the title of the the "best pound-for-pound".
Hope he changes his mind and fight until his record is at least 45-0 or 50-0, just to make it look on the record books.

I doubt he'll stick to his retirement with a nick like "Money"

Speaking of nicknames, my current favorite is that of Jermaine "Bad Intentions" Taylor. Too bad Bad Intentions was defeated by a white dude.

Lmao! But I'm surprised that you think (or thought) that a winner should be determined by how aggressive they are in the fight, not who lands the most punches.

Shush Matthew, I'm trying to pull a trick here. Edit your quotation of my post. :x

you think (or thought) that a winner should be determined by how aggressive they are in the fight, not who lands the most punches.

Usually the most aggressive are the ones who throw the most punches, but not necessarily the most punches landed (quality punches).

I want the aggressive fighter to win, I want to see a boxing match not a ballet show.

If you want aggression, go to a mental insituition and watch retards in straight jackets. I like to see athletic ability as well as skill in boxing.

Theres talk he might goto ufc. Personally I would hate to see this happen (even though I love ufc) but it's like Michael Jordan to baseball all over again. Plus the UFC has a history of underpaying their fighters big time ($85,000 for fighters in the main event of their pay per views? please.) so how will they afford Mayweather? Are they going to pay him 5 million per pay per view and give the rest of their fighters $10000?

Well that was the ufc president saying no, but that would be a typical response if they were in negotiations.

I think with him being a boxer...unless he's had some sort of previous MMA training...he'd have a long way to go. Kimbo slice is someone who comes to mind....he's one of the hardest strikers i've seen but his last match was less than spectacular.
