Underbelly

Great.

I was so pumped for this, a decent Australian drama series with good characters, actors, and writing. Based on the true events of the Melbourne gangland killings.

Now the Supreme Court has ruled that it cant be screened in Victoria, due to the fact that it could sway the opinions of potential jurors.

My reasons for wanting it to air are extremely selfish (wanting a flipping job), but i also believe that people aren't so stupid that they can't separate fact from heavily dramatised and edited fact.

Justice King also ordered the removal of all excerpts from Underbelly from the internet.

I don't know if the entire internet falls under her jurisdiction.
"It will be difficult for the viewing public to sift through what is factual material and what is fictional," she said.

Are you in Victoria? The rest of the country gets it, apparently.

Yeah I'm in Melbourne. It'll be available on torrents, I just don't want a heavily edited version or whatever.

Well. We finally got it in Victoria, in a manner of speaking. The first episode screened tonight, supposedly heavily edited. Including one section where one character, just one character, was shown with a pixellated face. This was a character being played by an actor. I assume it wasn't the real life person playing themselves.

Anyway, gift horses and such.

It was still an enjoyable piece of television, and i'll be watching all of the other episodes eagerly.

I'm guessing the DVD set isn't available in Victoria either?

Not yet. They can't actually screen all of the episodes yet either. They're only screening five out of nine(?). I assume the DVD release would also be delayed until it can be sold as an entire box set.

Which could be years.

Anyway, I learned that the pixellated character was Tony Mokbel, sans awesome wig.

You could always order it interstate or pick it up off eBay if you're keen...unless it's considered contraband or something. ;)

I reckon that's what I'll do. I'm heading to Sydney in a month so i may even buy it there. They just may not let me back across the border again.

Well, you've got to look at it from their perspective. Who knows what kind of hell will break loose if you watch that DVD set in the privacy of your own home. Anarchy and chaos are sure to follow.

How could it not? The Muppet Show was, after all, merely a front for the late Jim Henson's revolutionary movement.
