Insomniatic

Postby Doobie on Wed Oct 03, 2007 6:04 pm

I am having one of those nights where I just can't sleep. It is now 4 a.m eastern time and I am wide awake with nothing to do because a majority of TV channels are giving Paid Programming and crap that no-one watches. Any tips to fall asleep? Anything to do this late? Anyone else have this problem?? HELPPP.

I'm not going to school but as of now I'm listening to music and I'm finally getting drowsy.

What you need is a big brother to be honest.

He'd smack you so hard upside the head you'd be out cold.

Damn it Doobie. Stop eating while waiting for yourself to fall asleep.

The Jackal recommendation is the best.
If you have no big brother, you can smack yourself with a hammer.

Just becaue you aren't in school doesn't mean you can't study. I'll bet there is something out there you are interested in, why not just study that? This is something that drives me nuts. Everyone looks at learning like it is some sort of burdon, hell even I do most of the time, but learning should be celebrated. There is so much information in the world.

Some of which are false.

Well that's quite an interesting new adjective in the thread title. I figured it was some kind of TV show.

That's what I was going to say. But with all the porno sites he said that he was on, I figured that was already done.

...a million times already.

No advice would be much use now, as it sometime around 7 PM now.

Sleep is kind of a problem for me. I'm addicted to staying up very late. This really fucks me up during school. The worst part of it is that I'm not even doing homework or anything. I'm addicted to not doing schoolwork at home. Everyday after school I take a 5 hour nap (unless I have to work), wake up, procrastinate 5 hours, go to sleep late, wake up and be tired all day at school, get home, take nap, and so on. It's a vicious cycle.

I have delayed sleep phase syndrome and it sucks ass. I had to drop out of school because of it. One day I'll get up at 8am, then just not sleep till 10am the next day. It's not lie insomnia, I just don't get tired.

I hope I can get it sorted before my course starts on the 15th.

I still can't tell if DSPS is a made-up thing, but I have something like it. Like you said my circadian rhythm is something like 27 hours instead of 24, so I'm never tired when I need to go to bed and I still need 8 or more hours of sleep.

There seems to be some consensus getting more sunlight causes a part of the brain (reticular activating system, I'm taking a cognitive studies course right now) to better regulate the circadian rhythm. I'd say I get my fair share but it doesn't seem to have much of an effect.

Yeah that's it. Finally someone who has the same thing.

People say it ruined there careers, education, etc. but I really do think if you put your mind to it and stick to a routine for a couple months, it will stay that way. I just find it hard to stick to that routine. It ruined my last two years at high school (almost three), but I never really wanted to go to school anyway, so it wasn't like there was something to look forward to in the morning when getting up was already so damn hard.

I went to a sleep doctor and he recommended all these different types of lights to stare at for a certain amount of time each day... not my thing.

I randomly go 30+ hours without sleep once or twice a week, I don't think I have any syndrome I just don't sleep.

Dead wrong Roberto. Working out or physical activity would give him enough energy to most likely make it through the night without sleeping. Exercise can give you anywhere from 2 to 4 hours of energy.

To be serious since i havent been yet in this thread; you either find something mind numbingly boring to do, or you just lay there and think. Some of my greatest realizations have come on nights i cant sleep.
