Student tasered during John Kerry speech

I was gonna post this in the Video Thread, but seeing how there's a lack of discussion these days, I'll create a thread about it. So a student asks John Kerry a long question, or speech, and he ends up getting tasered because he wouldn't leave in an orderly fashion.

Thoughts and comments? Did he deserve to be tasered? Will he press charges? Was freedom and speech violated, or was he being discourteous?

He is an attention seeker who is always pulling stunts like this. According to eyewitnesses, he cut the line and ran up to the microphone. He started ranting, when he was cut off by the officials (watch this video and see the guy make the "cut" motion) and in a fairly usual manner the police tried to lead him out. He clearly resisted and continued to keep doing so.

If he had left when they asked him to, didn't resist and try to run like that he would have never gotten tasered. He was just trying to get attention and rant, look how he instantly declares "why are you arresting me? is anybody watching this?" when they are clearly just trying to lead him out.

This is one of those stupid meaningless "nothing" events people are trying to turn into a major controversy, saying he should get an hour to sit and talk with Senator Kerry, get interviews with the media, etc. All because he was an idiot who wouldn't leave.

If he was a crazy, who, when he ran towards the stage jumped up there and started stabbing Senator Kerry with a bic pen, everyone would be complaning how the police didn't stop him. :roll:

The tasering was pretty unnecessary, since they basically already had him subdued by that point. But he was clearly resisting, and as benji said, the cops appeared to simply be escorting him out. He probably would have gotten off free if he didn't resist, but I think it was overkill on the part of the cops, and a slight abuse of power. Still, I've personally witnessed much more egregious infractions by police that have gotten, at best, local or minimal national coverage. This is not an incident that demands as much attention as it seems to be getting, as no one but the guy in the video stands to gain from it.

Yeah, I'm not defending the tasering, I personally would not have. But it is not like he did not bring it upon himself. I agree with the above, although I do not believe the police should be punished for abuse of power, nor should the kid get anything out of this, as that is just rewarding this moron (talking about the kid, not John Kerry) even more.

I'll have to side with the kid on this one. He wasn't told what exactly he had done wrong, which makes it an improper arrest on the part of the security officers. If someone is the victim of an unlawful arrest, such as what happened here, then yes, he is justified in struggling.

Major exaggeration and poor handling on the part of the security. The guy may be an idiot, but he's a correct idiot. (Y)

Um, he was resisting. They weren't arresting him, they were very clearly trying to lead him out for being a disruption, (well, within their powers regarding this situation) then he starts being a real asshole, resisting and screaming, etc.

His entire motive is clear the instant they try to merely lead him out and he yells "why are you arresting me? is anybody watching this?"

I agree, he shouldn't have been tasered, but he was definitely asking for trouble. I don't get why they had to taser him as he could've been just dragged out of the auditorium or at worst, whacked with a baton a couple of times. I've seen bouncers handle more vicious people than that guy, yet the cops had to go excessive. It wouldn't have gotten this much attention if taser wasn't involved.

Speaking of Leno , he said a few days ago about the incident that it was the first time anyone had ever been "electrified" at a John Kerry speech. :lol:

As for the tazering , he was being disruptive and he should have known his time was up and sat down and been quiet the rest of the time...

agreed. like in your first post, he is nothing more than an attention grabber and if he is given anything it just paves the way for other people to act stupid and get something they dont deserve

Haha, I was driving to school the other morning and they had a John Kerry speech on there and he was letting a student at some University ask a question and the kid brought up a book that showed Kerry won the election blah blah blah, and Kerry's response was priceless. Before the kid even finished saying the title Kerry said "I've read it, next question." lol, i just thought that was funny.
