I don't know if I laughed because I was in a theatre or because it was funny, but I do know that watching superbad is the closest I've ever felt to being fat, ugly, white trash. this new kind of comedy, antics of the most pathetic characters imaginable (napoleon dynamite, superbad, etc.), I just don't get. I don't know - I don't relate with the characters, and I don't like laughing at them all that much either. I prefer laughing with rather than at.

I don't know if I laughed because I was in a theatre or because it was funny, but I do know that watching superbad is the closest I've ever felt to being fat, ugly, white trash. this new kind of comedy, antics of the most pathetic characters imaginable (napoleon dynamite, superbad, etc.), I just don't get. I don't know - I don't relate with the characters, and I don't like laughing at them all that much either. I prefer laughing with rather than at.

Obviously, you were never a "loser" in high school. This was a teen movie written by teen "losers". Very eerily close to my high school (and college for that matter) experience and i was certainly laughing with and not at the characters.
Example 1
"yeah i think they told us that would happen in health class" what the hell else is a virgin gonna say when he's drunk nervous and with a beautiful girl who wants to sleep with him? Have you never had one of those "yeah say that, cover up this is awkward as all hell" moments?
Example 2
The whole plot line about the guys leaving for college: i lost several extremely close friends this way and its a big part of your life when someone gets into a good school and moves away when you've been friends for that long. No kidding, it fucking hurts to actually do but you cant throw your future away so you go anyway.
Example 3
The everlasting quest for liquor. Come on...really? you've never been through this? searching through for who has a fake ID or is old enough and giving them money and meeting them later? And being accomplices to it standing outside seeing if it works? shit my first 3 years of college were spent doing this

These are just my examples, everyones life experience is different i realize this and maybe yours wasnt like mine. But i didnt see these as "loser" or hateful characters. I found them to be quite likable, funny high school losers who get their big break on grad night. Realistic not really, but funny as hell and entertaining for a couple hours? sure.

This is one of two movies I've ever gone to see twice at the movie theater, and it was just as funny the second time as the first time.

And on getting liquor as a teen, its something I think we all go through, but in my town you just give money to an adult passin by, tell him wat u want, give them a tip, and then your on your way home with a nice bottle of whatever you drink

In every European country I've been to, I got to buy alcohol at supermarkets.

I haven't been all over Europe, though. Just Spain, Greece, Germany, Austria, Hungary and Belgium (and Italy of course). Only in Germany I've been asked for ID, but they sold me the booze anyway.

Here in Italy, I can purchase alcohol in most pubs too, even though the "legal alcohol purchase age" is 16.

I thought it was like this all over Europe.

Really in america it depends where you are and who you're dealing with. Some people/towns have very strict codes and are very hard on it. There are other towns i've never been carded. Its an interesting dynamic to look at and a weird phenom in this country we have a high drinking age yet also higher rates of drunk accidents/alcohol related vandalism and the like....

I know every European country I've been to isn't all of Europe, but since the European Union is supposed to have similar, if not identical, laws and restrictions in every country that is part of it, I thought, maybe, the legal drinking age was the same.

One of my favorite parts is when the creepy guy asks if Seth or Evan has a myspace. I also loved it when that guy gets the crap beat out of him at the party. Another great part is in the cooking class where Seth is making all those obscene movements behind that girl. It is definitely one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.

If you are in a small town where there is a college in the US, pretty much none of the liquor stores there will card people. In fact, there are some college towns I've been to that opened up liquor stores purely to capatalize off the college kids getting drunk.

If you are in a big city, they will card you almost for sure. Most stores have signs that say we card anyone that looks under 45.
