Becoming a high school basketball coach?

Postby -Young Buck- on Sun Jun 24, 2007 3:26 pm

Does anyone know how to become one? Would i need to go to college? I am interested in the process and maybe trying it out. Any answer or advice would be great.

Most high school basketball coaches, atleast around here, are actually staff members of the school. So I'm guessing your best choice would be go get a teacher's license. :P

Yeah. If you are there to pursue some sort of coaching career, just get certified as a gym teacher. You'll probably have to be an assistant for the varsity team or coach the freshman or sophomore team for 6-10 years though.

So true. Our varsity coach taught AP Calc, dude was a fucking genius. He told us all that he got 100% on the math portion of his SAT's.

Yet he's stuck as a highschool teacher instead of using his genius ability. Great achievement for him, whoop. :P

You'd be suprised the people that teach high school. I had a physics teacher that had a patent and a PhD from Cornell but chose to teach High School because he got sick of working in a lab.

I live near Cornell lol. But yeah our varsity basketball coach is some new guy who was an assistant coach at like Alabama a&m or some shit. He is just some random guy from around here who I guess came back from Alabama and applied for the job. he is a young guy too. -Young Buck-, how old are you anyways?
