Not only do you have to install ad-ware, but apparently now you have to uninstall a Windows Security Update for the game to work properly:
PAtch 1.01 for BF2142

As per the patch 1.01, one of the "known issues" is as follows:

Players who have the Windows security update KB917422 installed may suffer from an application error when running Battlefield 2142. This error can be solved by uninstalling the KB917422 update.
Here's what this security update does:

MS06-051: Vulnerability in the Windows kernel could result in remote code execution
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917422

They're also apparently refusing to join Microsoft's "Games for Windows" movement...

Wow, they really screwed that up. Is it really called '2142'? I've never heard of that.

And I'm going to see them in Toronto!

Damn this is fucked up.So much was expected from this game (N) .Its ironic to see another EA game, that has big issues. If I look from a potential buyer point of view,I think I would never uninstall a Windows security update to get this game to work. Its not worth it in my opinion. There are many things that can damage your computer over the internet. So I don't think it would pay off,to play this game.Well thats just my 2 cents on it.

ah yes, i was watching X-Play on G4 and on The Feed they were talking about this... really sucks... EA is reminding me of the makers of the GT series, where for GT HD you have to pay money to unlock cars and stuff  The hell is going on?

haha yea that's pretty stupid. Also when they first started showing off the PSP before it was out, all the pictures and screens were of GT portable, and now like 1 1/2 years later, GT portable still isn't out.

Meh, we all agree that EASports is a horrible game making group. Even tho, everyone says that Madden is the best game ea made, but heck, so many bloopers too, an offense happy game, defense are like a buncha retards that cant do a shit, i nailed a 67 yarder with rackers a coupla weeks ago, bombs are sooo easy, even if the wr doesnt have a high speed rating, ward is 89 speed, hall is 98, he manages to get ahead and catch the pass, lotta bs in that game too.

I hope you all know that it is DICE who makes this game and EA only produces it.

Not anymore, EA dissolved half of DICE and the rest became a EA studio.
