The Unoffical "Check out my Sandwhich" Thread

Postby Mark. on Tue Oct 03, 2006 12:48 pm

Having finally beaten my knee injury and started training again most days, ive been trying to eat more healthy foods, so pies or pizza for lunch has now turned into Sandwiches and Rice/Pasta.

The good ol' sandwich has always been my friend, but Peanut Butter and Jam, or Honey etc starts to get boring, so my flate mates and I have started putting effort into making some pretty sweet sandwiches.

Anyway after making my daily piece of art I decided to take a photo, then after a failed attempt at some study I thought I needed to show the world (or rather the NLSC) my lunch.

Anyway I thought it would be interesting to see what different people put in their sandwhiches.

Anyway here was my sandwhich today:

Image

It includes: Roast Beef, Lettuce, Cheese, Tomato, Egg (I cut a hole in some bread and fried an egg in it) and 4 different sauces (Mayo, Ranch, Mustard and Tomato Chuttney)

Anyway lets see what other people go with for their sandwiches (Pics not required, I just decided to go all out :P )

The sandwich that I occasionally make if I didn't feel lazy is just a plain simple sandwich:

Some mayo, mozzarella, cucumbers and blackforest ham all slapped together in a toasted sandwich. Tastes good imo

Man, that's one good looking sandwich. Nice work. The only thing I'd change is going from white bread to 100% whole wheat

Yeah im quite a fan of whole weat, problem is we try to get the cheapest of most things we can find due to our poor student status, and Whole Wheat is about 3 times more expensive I think, maybe even more

Boy is this thread right up my alley. I work at a sandwhich factory.

Some of the best sandwhiches you'll ever have right there.

Although that egg-in-bread idea takes the cake.

Haha we have an expert then :D

Do they sell in cafe's, corner stores etc? Ill probably get to eat one while im over there if so.

Yeah the egg-in-bread idea comes from camping trips, its so when you fry an egg on the BBQ it doesnt spill everywhere. I wanted an egg in my Sandwich but couldnt think how to make it the right size, then I remembered how we cooked eggs when camping (Y)

I like sandwiches made with focaccia bread or baguettes. Focaccia sandwiches are like this.
I eat those sandwiches every morning at school and I just can't stop eating them.
Baguette sandwiches, instead, look like this

I'm not a sandwhich man for some reason... I just purchase my school lunch from school.

Occasionally I go to the milk bar and they have this Subway-esque sandwhich thing and you can choose what the hell you want in the sandwhich roll

I don't know if any of you have rye bread available, but that's what I mostly eat (bread), since it's more healthy and has way more fiber.

Image

I'm pretty modest when it comes to sandwiches, cheese, butter and ham. I often put also tomato slices and put the shit in the microwave, it's pretty good.

This is how it looked in my kitchen today, maybe I should store them a bit better, geez

That's the kind of things that I eat, I just didn't know how they're called. I don't eat them because it's healthy or smth., I just kinda like 'em.

Very nicely made sandwhich there. Looks delicious...damn now you've made me hungry. The only thing I have against it is this:
Mark. wrote:It includes: 4 different sauces (Mayo, Ranch, Mustard and Tomato Chuttney)

If you are trying to eat healthy, I think that you should be minimizing the amount of sauces. The egg in bread thing is genius by the way :) .

I hate sandwiches with a shitload of bread lol. I can barely taste the meat.

I'll have to try the egg-in-bread idea, that looks pretty tight. Do you end up burning (not toasting) your bread though?

I made a sandwich once that looked so awesome I wanted to take a video of it with my phone. I had the phone in one hand, picked up the sandwich with the other and everything fell out of it onto the floor. It was like losing a relative.

Umm well since I do it in the frying pan I wipe the pan with Olive oil first, seems to stop it burning, but you will still want to make sure you dont let it cook for too long on each side (Y)

Not to take away from your great sandwich Mark, but the people that are so in awe of the egg in bread part, you do realise that "French Toast" is basically egg soaked slices of bread which has been fried, right?

^ Yep, I was thinking that's what it is and lol @ everyone being so amazed by the concept. I love French toast, though mine rarely comes out looking as good as that.
